Anybody has experience with this converter and a PCI (Sound) card?
http://eu.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/Slot-Extension/PCI-Express-to-PCI-Adapter-Card~PEX1PCI1I’m curious if there are any driver problems, or is this solution transparent for the driver(s)?
I’ve heard that some PCI-Express cards use the same converter chip (PCIe => PCI) as on the adapter above. The question may rise: Why the hell would anybody choose for such solution? 😕
There are some very good (and cheap) PCI Soundcards available (like ESI Juli@) who are only available for normal PCI slots.
New Mini ITX boards do not have PCI slots anymore. This could be a solution for this problem.I know there are also physical aspects for this solution, but i’m only interested in any driver issues.
Please give me your opinions, and thanks in advance.

Also I’m not sure but there might be some limitations on the throughput of the mini PCI-E connector as the Juli@ is also available in PCI-E but only supports 96Khz, despite being based around the same DAC. This makes me think that this must be a restriction of the PCI-E architecture.
If I’m wrong here, please out me right..Yorkie.
August 25, 2011 at 10:19 pm #12526Dj BuikMemberPCI has max 533 MB/s (64bit) and
266 MB/s for 32bit
PCI-Express v1.x max 250 MB/s(All Wikipedia information)
The Julia card is an 32bit PCI card.
Indeed this can be a problem….. 😥

44.1kHz stereo wave file is only like 10 MB per *minute*. What would be a problem?August 26, 2011 at 9:33 am #12528BokiMemberThere is no Juli@ in PCI-E version. Only MAYA44 PCI and PCI-E. and both are 192kHz at output, and on input 96kHz.
edit: i revisited ESI site, they removed MAYA44 PCI-E version 192kHz. 😯
Now they call it MAYA44 XTe
