Hey fellow processing-heads.
I’m pretty happy with the sound of my stream, but am always looking for input. I do still have some lower bitrate mp3s in the library and am working on that, but this seems to be pretty forgiving. All tracks are "mp3 Gain"ed to 89db. Settings are as follows:
Plutonium
Final Drive: -2.0
Range: 42
Power: 39
Speed: 69Bass: +5
Shape: +25Listen at http://www.vortexradio.com
Listen links in multiple flavors on the left hand side. Stream is at 128 kbps mp3.
I’d love input especially from Leif and Jesse 😀

Put more simply: sounds great. 8) Not hearing any annoying over-the-top density on the treble, which is good.
p.s. there’s an issue with your Winamp feed if you access it directly from the site, or have the stream bookmarked in Winamp. it’s saying "access denied" but then if I open the "Embedded Player", then it’ll work in Winamp. It’s been like that since I’ve used your site the 1st time, but thought it was just some temporary issue.

Yeah, it’s a limitation of the free streaming service I’m using. Bypassing the ads results in that error so no direct linking or bookmarking the stream is allowed. Still, up to 1000 listeners free of charge ain’t a bad deal! I have their ad displaying at the very bottom of the page.
June 2, 2010 at 12:11 pm #10787GuillouMemberVery gooood for me but just a little too bass for me (question of taste).
I haven’t yet played with excessive down and up speed and power… But the result is very very good for CHR format for example.June 2, 2010 at 9:32 pm #10788JesseGMember[quote author=”Pepperjack”]Thanks Jesse.

What about… doing to the page that displays the ad, which then changes the page location to the .pls file ?? That might work, although it wouldnt’ get around bookmarking.
June 2, 2010 at 10:00 pm #10789PepperjackMemberDunno. I listen to it in my car through my Win SmartPhone. I pull the embedded player page but of course the ads don’t display in IE mobile. Then click the Winamp link which spawns GS Player. I guess it THINKS the ads displayed.
I’ve also been able to make a listen page on The Vortex Facebook page. The ads don’t display there either, but the links work. Very odd..
Search Vortex Radio on Facebook if you’re so inclined. 8)
@Guillou: I’m going for a warm "subwoofery" bass. I may take it back a tick though. It sure sounds good in my car!June 2, 2010 at 10:26 pm #10790PepperjackMemberI’d like to add that if anybody has any setting specific tweaks, please post ’em. It’s kind of vague as to what each slider is controlling. Especially the bass settings. Is it Q? What freq is it centered around?
June 4, 2010 at 2:03 pm #10791Lee XSMemberQuoted from Leif:
When cutting bass, EQ isn’t affected. Instead, the B1 and B2 multiband agc thresholds are lowered (compared to where they are by default in the selected preset).
Bass Cut -50, Shape +50: B1 -12, B2 -12
Bass Cut -50, Shape 0: B1 -12, B2 -6
Bass Cut -50, Shape -50: B1 -12, B2 0Bass Cut -25 gives you half the cut (i.e. -6, -3 for shape 0).
Bass Cut is a great way to clean up the sound, because it still retains the bass boost inherent to many presets, while lowering the thresholds for essentially "more bass compression".
If you BOOST, on the other hand, several things happen — more and more depending on how far you turn it up. Be careful, there’s a lot of available power here 😉.
Assuming Bass Boost +50 (bassclippingorama):
Shape 0: B1 out mix +12, B2 out mix +3, B1/B2 agc thresh: +7.25, and PEQ +14.5dB, 23 Hz, 3.0 Octaves
Yes, that’s insane. I never intended for people to actually use Bass Boost +50, I just had to make sure the maximum setting was sufficiently over the top, to be able to tell anyone deaf enough to want more to go away, or buy a subwoofer.Looking at a more sane bass boost setting of +15:
Shape 0: B1 out mix +4.75, B2 out mix +1.25, B1/B2 agc thresh 0 (the thresholds don’t start rising until bass boost is ABOVE +20), and PEQ +4.75dB, 23 Hz, 3.0 octaves
Let’s stick to bass boost +15 and explore other Bass Shape options (agc threshold omitted since they’re not affected at this setting):
Shape -50: B1 out mix +4.75, B2 out mix +0.00, PEQ +4.75dB, 40 Hz, 1.0 octaves
Shape -33: B1 out mix +4.75, B2 out mix +0.00, PEQ +4.75dB, 35 Hz, 1.6 octaves
Shape -16: B1 out mix +4.75, B2 out mix +0.25, PEQ +4.75dB, 28 Hz, 2.3 octaves
Shape 0: B1 out mix +4.75, B2 out mix +1.25, PEQ +4.75dB, 23 Hz, 3.0 octaves
Shape 16: B1 out mix +4.75, B2 out mix +2.0, PEQ +4.75dB, 33 Hz, 3.0 octaves
Shape 33: B1 out mix +3.0, B2 out mix +3.0, PEQ +4.75dB, 50 Hz, 3.0 octaves
Shape 50: B1 out mix +0.0, B2 out mix +4.75, PEQ +4.75dB, 71 Hz, 3.0 octavesJune 4, 2010 at 4:30 pm #10792PepperjackMemberThank you Leif via LeeXS. That is extremely helpful!
