    I recently upgraded from XP to Vista and now I lost the hard bypass Feature is there a work around for this problem

    Hi Peter!

    I’m afraid not. Windows Vista completely prevents 3rd party applications from changing the default sound device. Thus, a hard bypass feature is absolutely impossible in vista. This is also why the Breakaway installer has to make you open the audio control panel and make the change yourself in Vista, whereas in XP it happens automatically.

    I’m afraid it’s just one more example to add to the long list of "security" features in Vista getting which get in the way of convenience, without actually providing any security.

    Im not 100% sure that changing the defualt sound card is not possible with a third party app.. I’ve got the crappy IDT driver software (with trubass wank) and it is quite capable of switching the default device (Vistax64) I also had my old Bluetooth stack on Vistax32 changing the default device to the headphones (hurr)

    now we just need to figure out how they do it.

    Microsoft tried very hard to prevent apps from doing it, but if anyone has example code, I’ll be happy to take a look 😉.
