    Howdy!

    MpxTool version 2.1 is done!

    Changes:
Full version now uses Online Activation instead of Hardware ID lock! Activation procedure is identical to Breakaway.

However, all existing customers will need new keys. I will mail out new keys to all current customers.

    New Features:

Modulation level sticky peak-hold (reset by double-click)
    ITU BS.1770 Loudness Meters

    User interface improvements:

MpxTool has always natively supported both wav and flac! However, this was never obvious from the Save File Dialog. This has been vastly improved, and flac is now the default format.

MpxTool 2.1 full version can be downloaded from:

    http://mpxtool.com/files/mpxtool_full_setup_2.1.exe

The free playback-only demo can be downloaded from:

    http://mpxtool.com/files/mpxtool_demo_setup_2.1.exe

Enjoy, and please report any bugs 😉.

    Best,

2.1 works fine for me, but I’m not quite sure how to interpret the loudness meter. What do the gray marks at -14 represent? Is there any special significance when the level meters go above this point?

    Hi Kevin!

The mark at 14 represents the K14 mastering loudness standard, and happens to be as loud as Reference Settings playing Classic Rock. The K14 standard really has nothing to do with radio — it’s for CD mastering (and really, obviously it has nothing to do with CD mastering either since nobody is following it.)

Basically, if you’re at K14 with peaks at 0, you have basically full short-term dynamics for pop/rock music. Any louder than that and you have less than full dynamics. Yellow is still long-term listenable to my ears — red is smashed, low TSL.

It just gives you an easy way to see how smashed the signal is. 🙂
