    Hi,

    At the moment, I stream at 256kbps mp3 to a Shoutcast server.

    Do I need to switch to IceCast to use something like Flac to stream in a lossless format. I’d like to experiment but I haven’t tried it before so I thought I’d ask on here first (that sentence makes it sound like I want to try a drug 🙂 ).

    Has anyone done this?

    The only way I’ve heard of to stream FLAC is Ogg encapsulated… aka "OggFLAC". And for that, you need Icecast. Slim Devices’ SlimServer also streams FLAC in betweeh a host computer and their boxes… I’m not sure what method is used there, but it is open source.

    Just curious, and with all respect, why on earth you want (need) a lossless stream?
    The only thing i can come up with is a maybe a studio link.
