    The Input Level sometimes change its color. Why?

    If the color is red than the source is clipping (many CDs are mastered in this way).

    If you use additional effect plug-ins (-> settings and I/O configuration) and the color is pink, than this distortion is caused by one of the DSP effects (pre Breakaway processing).
