Hi Lief – HUGE long term fan of what you do – I spoke with you a few years back and we purchased the Breakaway live for all of our stuff as well as are not getting into the Omnia 9 as well. Love the tools.

My issue is last week we changed stream providers and our quality before was excellent. We are using Edcast for the encoder and an M-Audio card you recommended a few years back – you were a great help.  When we changed providers we lost a lot of quality, the stream provider (Securenetsystems) is saying it is on our end – but the ONLY thing that REALLY changed in the entire paradigm was we went from Lame to AAC for the encoder type. Now our stations on this sound like poopoo lol –

http://qmix.com is one of the streams. I cannot figure out for the life of me WHY such a change has affected the quality. We do not suspect the provider because we have one stream encoded using the Omnia 9 which is working and sounding excellent.

Any advice or thoughts on what is causing this? We had the streams sounding good and stable for the past couple of years and in one config change they went to poop – and i am lost on how to correct.
Thanks in advance for listening and for any advice you can offer.

I haven't listened to your stream but you should know that AAC can perform poor in comparison to a LAME stream. What bitrate are you trying to encode at with AAC? Also, where did you get your AAC codec from? Try downloading and installing an old (before v6) version of Winamp and get the AAC codec from the program folder. Copy the AAC encoder into your Edcast directory (over write the existing one or rename the existing one).
