Hi guys!
Figured I’d try out the poll functionality of the board, and take the opportunity to ask everyone: What preset are you using in Breakaway?
Feel free to add comments too, of course 🙂.
April 10, 2008 at 7:48 am #3994AnonymousGuestI use The Regulator,
I love this preset, because everything sounds so perfect, it’s like when my ears are being softly massaged by a young skilled woman
April 10, 2008 at 4:04 pm #3995AnonymousGuestReference Heavy is the nicest preset for just about any situation!

April 11, 2008 at 2:59 pm #3997AnonymousGuestI also prefer Reference Heavy, but looks like I will look closer at The Regulator 😆

April 13, 2008 at 4:28 pm #3999LeifKeymasterHi Andrew!
Excellent comments.
quote :I like that Zenith doesn’t seem to change the equalization as much as the other presets (I have also set the Bass setting to Normal). For now I have kept the Range and Power settings at 50: the lower I set them the less point there is in trialling Breakaway.I already use Replay Gain on my music collection, so I’m not sure I’ll continue to use Breakaway past the 30 day trial. I guess it depends on how much difference it makes to me when watching (and listening to!) movies.
Using ReplayGain first helps a lot. That means basically the AGC in breakaway doesn’t have to do much. Zenith is definitely the right preset to use for music that is basically the right level already (whereas Reference Heavy makes music the right level no matter what it was, at the expense of dynamics). It may even be worth to turn down Range slightly. I too love the sound of Zenith – it doesn’t appear to change things all that much – you really don’t notice it until you hit Bypass, at which point things just don’t go together anymore, that near-invisible something is missing.
Movies is actually one of the strongest points of the Breakaway algorithm, as evidenced by its use on many HDTV networks in the states! 🙂
However, Zenith doesn’t have nearly enough Input AGC range for Movies, and turning up the Range control will also adjust the Multiband range, altering the sound of the preset. There will be an alternate version of Zenith in the next version of Breakaway (Zenith Heavy?) to address this issue.
You could also try the Reference Movies preset. It’s identical to Reference Settings except it lowers the ratio of the Input AGC to 2:1, retaining more original dynamics but still going a long long way towards keeping dialog audible and effects under control. I personally can’t watch movies without it – it just ruins the mood to have to adjust the volume manually.
quote :btw, I have Breakaway docked on my 2nd monitor (lower resolution). I’m always pleased to find software that works well with a multi-monitor setup (with different resolutions).Thank you! I’m very glad somebody noticed! It certainly didn’t happen by itself — i’ve got the welts on my fingers to prove it. 😉

August 18, 2016 at 2:18 am #4001StaceheasleyMemberThe eurption preset is nice and phat, the AGC release time is a little to extreme in my opinion. I wish I had control over that parameter.
