    Hi
Iv’e currently downloaded the Breakway Broadcast trial and can’t get enough of it. It certainly makes my LPFM sound like the big boys. However….. price is always the big factor for a lot of LPFM stations and believe me if I could afford to at the moment, I would purchase it in a nano second.
My question is, would Enhancer be more than enough for the needs of an LPFM station and is there anyone on this forum thinking the same or is doing it this way.
Also, this software compliments OTSAV very well.

    Cheers

I think Leif would take issue with using the $30 product in place of one he sells for 10 times that! At least he did when I suggested the same!

Actually I’ve been thinking of adding an FM mode to Breakaway Audio Enhancer. This mode would run pre-emphasis, the low latency clipper from Breakaway ASIO, then de-emphasis and finally EQ.

The purpose would be to get near broadcast quality sound from small personal FM transmitters such as the ones you might use to get audio into the car stereo of a rental car, or perhaps just to wirelessly broadcast from your netbook to your stereo system.
Other possible uses would be anywhere you need good LPFM audio from a computer, such as christmas light shows.

Restrictions compared to full Breakaway Broadcast:

    No straight line input
    No MPX output
    No pre-emph output
No rock solid peak control (due to no pre-emph output)

The restrictions do not matter for the intended use because:
Audio is intended to play from the computer, and if you must, you could get line input through a program like Audio Repeater
MPX output is not necessary for LPFM since transmitters usually have L/R input and built in stereo encoders.
10% peak overshoot does not matter for LPFM, and does not cause IF filter distortion, even though it would be disasterous for full power operation.

Would it also feature HPF and LPF functionality?

Yes, it will have 16 kHz brick wall low pass filtering to protect the pilot, and 30hz high pass filtering. I’ll use the standard 30hz high pass from Breakaway Live / BBP ASIO, not the phase linear filter from BBP, which adds 1/3 second of delay.

    What about Final Drive?

Nope. Why is this necessary for home users, Timmy?

It will however include 50/75us pre-emph, squarewave generator, tilt control, slow sweep generator and the L/R output PEQ with Gain and Width control (frequency will be set to 16k). Not that I’m expecting consumers to have an oscilloscope and a mod monitor, but this way we’ll be able to provide correct calibration values for different common transmitters.

I’m going to bite the bullet and buy Broadcaster. After trialing both on my LPFM the choice was obvious. I guess my question was one of those "What ever works best for you" and probably rather pointless. Enhancer sounded fine but I found it hard to get that extra bit of top end out of it to give a bit more crispness, but at the end of the day enhancer wasn’t for the purposes of broadcasting.
I hope I didn’t offend the makers of this fine product with my question. I certainly didn’t mean to come across as a cheapskate.
After sleeping on it all weekend my final decision was based purely on quality over the dollar. Trying to justify spending $310NZ on an LPFM.
Sound Solution has nothing on this software and I only wish I had discovered it earlier. I’m very pleased with it and look forward to further correspondence in this forum.

    Cheers Guys
