    Hi Guys,

    After we needed some time to build and install our new studio equipment our local radio station is nearly ready to switch to breakaway broadcast 🙂 I took a look at the current setup, its the following:

    Studio -> [Processing computer (pre-emph l/r out)] -> Stereo+RDS "print thing" -> STL -> 2x Zendlijnbegrenzer-> Transmitter

    The "print thing" is a stereo coder + rds coder, it works with minirds and i suppose its a custom made pira-like print. The "zendlijnbegrenzer" is located at the transmitter site. If i’m right, the stereo+rds "print thing" turns the 44.1khz computer output into MPX signal and we are sending MPX over the STL.

    My questions:
    * The output of the processing computer is just 44.1khz on a onboard soundcard and is not a mpx signal. Do i still need to calibrate it? (it had never been done nor was possible with our current processing software).
    * When i swap the current processing software with Breakaway Broadcast and enable the stokkemasker limiter, there is no use the "zendlijnbregrenzers" anymore, right?

    Any other tips/tricks are welcome.

    Thanks,
    Ray

    Hi Ray!

    Yes, you do still need to calibrate it! Your previous software didn’t have the option, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t need it. Tilt must still be adjusted, to compensate for the sound card. You may want to look at the output of your stereo coder with an oscilloscope to make sure that it itself does not cause tilt.

    * When i swap the current processing software with Breakaway Broadcast and enable the stokkemasker limiter, there is no use the "zendlijnbregrenzers" anymore, right?

    Correct — definitely remove any other limiters. Breakaway takes care of all the peaks on its own 🙂.

    Vriendelijke groeten,
    ///Leif
