Maybe my question is way too stupid but as you know Blackberry is the de facto standard in corporate mobile communications and as you know this thing can play music as well. Is there a chance that we can get Breakaway for Blackberry? Or should i consider that the answer to this question is the same as why we don’t have Breakaway for Mac and Linux? BTW if I have to choose between these 3 options for expansion – Mac, Linux or RIM – I’d bet on RIM. With all due respect to all other OSes, marketwise they are just not there (please spear me the usual Linux/Mac bias – I don’t need teachers because I’m too old for that and I know enough – and BTW I love both Mac and Linux and yes Linux is better than Microsoft (not too sure about Mac nowadays) but I can also see the reality). You already cover Microsoft so what about RIM?

Breakaway does not run on Microsoft (Windows CE) handheld devices – the current version runs on Windows XP / Vista / 2000 desktop PCs.
We would certainly love to get into one particular handheld device, though. That device, is the iPod! 😉

November 2, 2008 at 9:50 pm #4487AnonymousGuestAre you sure about the iPod? Maybe you meant iPhone? The cell phone is a necessity nowadays and everyone has one. The handheld marked is dying because its main practical advantage – the portable entertainment is getting matched in more and more phones nowadays. I fly oversees at least once a month and these long flights are to say it nicely a bit inconvenient. I used to carry my iPod with me all the time but since I got the latest version of Blackberry which has media player, all my iPod is doing now is collecting dust in my home office. How long do you think will take people to realize that it makes no sense to carry multiple single purpose portable devices with them every day? This is why I think that iPhone is the better choice among Apple’s portable gadgets but if I have to compare iPhone to Blackberry I still think that Blackberry has advantage because usually you get it for free from your company and it is much easier to spend few bucks for improvements on a free device compared to paying big bucks for a comparable functionality wise device and have to spend additionally on improvements. This is why I asked about Blackberry and not about iPhone.
November 2, 2008 at 10:50 pm #4488AnonymousGuestIf the next generation of Apple’s ipod had Breakaway in both itunes software, and imbeded in the handheld device, then the audio enhancement would be far ahead of any other handheld device. The AGC would fix the biggest issue with the ipod, the lack of a working gain control for all of the various track levels. Apple’s "sound check" is ineffective to say the least. I have music that was recorded in the 1960’s and current digitally recorded music where the original recording levels vary greatly. Pre-processing all of the music to achieve equal levels prior to downloading to the ipod does not appeal to the average consumer.
But the biggest factor is the marketplace, Apple’s itunes and ipod are by far the most poplular devices, and people who own early generation ipods tend to stay with Apple and upgrade to the newer versions. Adding BA would provide yet another generation of devices for Apple to market. And, I agree Mike, some people only want one device to play music, handle voice, internet and email, that is why Apple developed the iphone, and it will work with thier itunes store, which is the most popular of the online music services.
I for one, would love to have a 120 GB ipod with my entire MP3 music colletion stored on the device, and be able to play the tracks stored on the device back with Breakaway audio enhancement active. Now if Leif could only figure out a way to add it to existing ipods! That would be a must have ipod accessory with a huge market potential!
Also, if it would work on the ipod, then it would work on the iphone as well!
Now, if we could just get Steve Jobs to listen to Breakaway!!!!
