Greetings,
I wonder if you could help me out. We are considering in buying Breakaway ASIO for our local station, but I have few questions that I would like to get an answer for. And I know you could help me. 😉
We are testing both soundcards (Marian Trace Alpha and ESI Juli@), but we don't know which one to use for MPX out, since we have some issues with Marian Trace on ASIO version.
There is no way to enable input (no sound through) in Breakaway ASIO with Marian soundcard and we tried with Windows7, both 32 and 64 bit, but on StereoTool works like a charm.
Didn't tried Windows XP. But on ESI Juli@ works everything OK in both version Win7.We are really confused what to do, since I've read that Marian is better audio card with DC straight output. Are there other limitations between ESI Juli@ or it only needs to be calibrated on tilt?
Also I wrote to customer support to Marian, complaining with input issues and they gave me this answer:
"The reason for this problem could be, that these applications do not support the ASIO Format 27. Usually, an ASIO application is obliged to support all ASIO formats (see Steinberg ASIO SDK).
Sometimes, they only support Format 18. We know from Breakaway Broadcast that this is the case, thus causing these problems.
In the near future we will investigate also Adobe Audition to figure out, if it also lacks the correct ASIO format. The MARIAN cards require Format 27."What do you recommend? Is there anybody having those issues with this soundcard and you could help us out? I've been on so many places but I didn't found the right answer I was looking for.
Your help would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance!
David.
November 12, 2014 at 10:30 pm #13968MilkyKeymasterWelcome to the forum. I hope that this query gets read by the developer, Leif, as he is possibly the only person who would know which format has been encoded into Breakaway.
It might be interesting to ask the ESI Juli people what format they use, as it obviously works correctly.

The Marian Trace alpha does have the DC straight output but unless you have difficulty accurately adjusting the tilt, the ESI Juli@ (or a PCI Maya44 for that matter) will do the job just fine. The sound quality from a Juli@ or a Maya is stunning. Some soundcard models are unpredictable from card to card of the same type but the ESI cards are reliable and made to tight tolerances so it's pretty safe to predict the tilt value of an ESI card which for me has always been 4.
If of course your transmitter does not have a perfectly DC straight input, then this all becomes irrelevant anyway, you'll then need to have a far more complex way of knowing for sure you have the tilt value correct. Most proper, professional transmitters however will have a straight DC input but cheaper and more "piratey" brands might not be DC straight.Hope this helps,
Yorkie98.

We are using proffesional microwave link on 1.5 Ghz, so I think the input should be DC straight.
Did post question to service desk on ESI for ASIO issues and I'm waiting for their reply. I'm wondering what kind of ASIO format are they using, since there are no problems with Breakaway ASIO and Juli@ whatsoever. Will post answer here.Did someone tried to use Marian Trace on Windows XP and figure it out input issue?
But if we will use ESI Juli@, I think it will be just fine, based on your answer yorkie98. So, thank you!One more question – what kind of OS do you recommend?
Best regards.
David.November 14, 2014 at 10:57 pm #13971BokiMemberThing is that Leif uses "old asio" format for BA ASIO.
ESI drivers supports both old and new asio format (kinda smart). Marian drivers not! At some point they updated ASIO format in drivers and that's why you don't have sound on BA ASIO.However you can install old driver for XP and all works fine.
Old driver is V2.02 – last that works with BA Asio.November 15, 2014 at 6:52 pm #13972davbMemberToday I tried to install Marian 2.02 drivers for 32bit Win7 and it works just fine.
So we'll probably stick to 32bit version and we will see how things will go from there.Found drivers here:
