Hey guy’s i have an interesting one…Had to reinstall my os due to a fatal error,no biggie, but after install the first thing i noticed was my license code doesn’t work (i had been using RC 1.20.06 and hadn’t updated cuz it worked fine) no prob, sort that out later. After install of breakaway it worked fine in the media center. That was until i shut down the media center and did something else (i.e. surfing,hulu,etc..). When i went back into the media center my music sounded like crap ❗ By crap i mean constant popping and stuttering of music. Even a simple mouse gesture invoked the wrath of the music gods and was almost unlistenable. So i uninstalled breakaway and used the on board sound. No crackles or pops! I then installed breakway again and within 10 minutes the pops where back. So i uninstalled breakaway again! Then in the process of this i stumbled upon something weird. If i install breakaway while the media center is running i get perfect sound!? Then if i shut down media center and surf or whatever the sound is crap again when i turn the music back on? The only way to fix it is to uninstall, cclean it,reboot notebook, run mce and reinstall breakaway then don’t turn the mce off again! Any ideas what might be causing this? Is something else hi jacking my sound card? I’ve run ton’s of virus scans with avg..nothing. Played with all the buffers and settings on breakaway and nothing helps. I’m running windows 7 beta (i know it’s a beta but this happened in vista as well) with 2.0 intel core 2 duo and 2gb ram. Anything else i can do? Thanks
January 31, 2009 at 3:19 am #4679AnonymousGuestturn down all the functioning volume sliders in WINDOWS..ie: spdf, wav, master.
drop them to about 48%January 31, 2009 at 4:13 am #4680LeifKeymasterHoooowdy, Texan!
Volume controls almost certainly have nothing to do with it.
I wonder if it’s a Breakaway problem or a Pipeline problem.
Do you have any audio editor installed on your system?
If so, when you hear the problem, please record from Breakaway Pipeline 1 with your audio editor, and then examine the file. Is the file clean, or does it have the problem?
Knowing this would help me narrow down the problem.
Best,
///LeifJanuary 31, 2009 at 11:27 pm #4681AnonymousGuestleif, i can turn my windows volume up right now, and get cracks and pops when sound plays. It does it w/ onboard and a pci sound card i have. (btw) I just did it, to make sure im not crazy and it still does it.. 🙂 maybe my computer is special.
February 1, 2009 at 2:49 am #4682LeifKeymasterHydro, I see.. I believe it a different problem. In your case, it’s distortion / clipping related. This can definitely cause Cracks and Pops — however it will not cause stutters, which Texas said he was hearing.. Thus, in Texas’ case I believe it’s a timing related problem — the steady flow of audio isn’t steady / regular enough.

February 1, 2009 at 9:15 pm #4683AnonymousGuestWell i tried the volume trick someone suggested to no avail. I don’t have an audio editor installed but i will look around and see if i can get one that will record the problem. Two problems i have noticed though…when i switch presets (from regulator to heavy,etc..) the music freezes and stutters for about a second then the presest switches…also there is a pop about every 60 seconds are so (wlan card maybe?) i’ve read that may happen when it searches for networks..but it doesn’t do it when just using onboard sound. Also when i go to manage my audio devices then on board card still shows that it’s working alongside breakaway? I thought breakaway took control of the audio side? When i choose to disable the onboard side i get no sound at all and the volume level indicator freezes on the breakaway side until i turn the on board sound on again…i also disabled the gforce plugin and the last.fm plugin which were the only ones i have. I’m writing this while listening to music and i don’t wanna turn it off cuz the pops will come back and i’ll have to reinstall again! I love my breakaway and i can’t go back to onboard again leif…i just can’t! 😥
February 2, 2009 at 1:49 am #4684LeifKeymasterHey Texas,
If you’re using the maximum buffer size, and realtime priority, and you’re still getting periodical glitches related to the WLAN etc, then something is *very very* wrong.
Could it be poor drivers for the on-board audio?
Breakaway indeed takes over and makes itself the default device, but the processed audio must still go through the regular audio driver to have a route out of the computer.
Can you take a screenshot of the Breakaway Audio Setup window (expert mode) and post here?
Also, what type of on-board audio do you have? SoundMax? Via? Realtek?
Please be as specific as possible.
Best,
///LeifFebruary 2, 2009 at 8:30 pm #4685AnonymousGuestHey leif! Thanx for the quick response…i have (i think because my device driver says i’m using generic intel hdmi and high def drivers) Sigmatel on board HDMI. It’s on board so i’m using Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset (Prerelease WDDM 1.1 Driver). It updates my sound driver when the 965 driver is installed. I’ll try to get a picture when i get home as i have uninstalled Breakaway and i’ll have to get home to reinstall. Thanks man!
