    Hi Leif!

What’s the effects of attenuate input level over range setting?

I`m usig range=25 to keep the original musics fade out. This is good enough to my needs.

If I attenuate the input to -3db or -6db, what happen whith the effects of this range setting?

I think it depends on the preset that you use.
Some presets are very sensitive with low imputs..

But normaly, a good preset like plutonium should not change the sound shape if you lower the imput of the software proccesor.

    who knows!

    Hi Carlos!

Attenuating the audio by 6dB would be identical to reducing the range by 6dB except that when attenuating the input, the gating threshold will sit higher in relation to the signal.

Thus, if you want more gating (whether downward expansion (noisegates) or compressor freeze-gating), you could attenuate the audio by 6 or 12dB, and turn up Range to compensate. Might possibly be a useful trick. 🙂

Also in general Leif’s presets have lower gates than mine. I like to let my presets breath a little. But they are all still decently aggressive with leveling.

But gating isn’t the whole picture alone. For instance New York and Rusticity both use -24db for gating (which slows the release of the AGC), and -36db for freezing (which completely stops the release of the AGC)… but you know which one is louder. 😉
