I’ve been working with Breakway Broadcast now for some time. Love it!

The variable pre-emph is great for using it as an FM processor or a netcaster where you turn it down to the 25 setting.

But what about when it sits infront of an AM service or more correctly a SW service where the audio is cut off at 5khz? We all know you can roll the audio off in BB. But what about setting up the boost curve as per the NRSC then cutting it off dead at 5khz?

Is it possible to have it as a button to press? Enable NRSC Curve then select the roll off freq? I’ve had the Inovonics 222 after Breakaway Live and it does a nice job. Was just wondering if we can do away with the Inovonics?

    Cheers

    Pete

I agree about the pre-emphasis filtering. I actually had a version of Rustonium that had a custom curve at 10kHz low-pass and below, but I don’t know if it was removed. At one point i think it may have been but I may have not been looking at the right versions.

But yeah, a universal option should be created in the upcoming versions. Between that, and also the filtering, it should be possible to really tailor a sound that once and for all can say it’s knocking even a perfectly tuned 9100 from the dial.

I know it’s close already, but that smaller channel filtering needs to be handled correctly as well, I agree.

fyi the largest shortwave Breakaway has been on was 1 million watts erp, highly directional. 🙂 but it went off air a few years ago.

    Thanks JesseG.
I’m in Australia. We have a category of services here called MF NAS. MF = Medium Freq, NAS = Narrowband Area Service.
These are from 1611khz to 1701 in 9khz steps. They are not traditional broadcasting services. They are 400 watts and limited to an audio bandwdith rolled of at around 3.5/4.5khz. In theory they should be totally sub standard to a "proper" AM service.

But purchasing gear set for "SW spec" works a treat! I’m refering to the 5khz roll off and then the NRSC curve that was designed to bring back a little brightness. AM Radio (traditonal) here doesn’t have the NRSC curve as standard here. I think it was voluntary in the states but now it’s a must. From my fiddling I’d say it’s a must!

I hand no idea you had something biult into the preset i hope i understand that right. It would be much better for us simpler folk to just have a button.

    thanks heaps
