I was thinking if it’s possible to make a PCI or USB or blabla bla card for making an breakaway fm output fully clean and stable with the cleanest RF signal on the planet earth!
DDS ? yes…but ..10.7 MHz may be better…
Let’s talk about RF output using ..breakaway !
😯
Leif , is this possible? can you make it?October 31, 2009 at 11:45 pm #8839GeorgeMemberHello Stavros!
why not something like this? http://www.pcs-electronics.com/2007-ste … p-968.html
November 1, 2009 at 12:54 am #8840LeifKeymasterWhy would 10.7 MHz be better than DDS, Stavros?

November 1, 2009 at 2:29 am #8841JesseGMemberI may be lost here, but isn’t the DDS talked about in the other topics in the FM band already? How would 10mHz be better since it would have to be stepped up using an analog circuit?
November 1, 2009 at 10:21 am #8842GeorgeMemberJesse & Stavros, this should be one of the next project of sigmacom…
💡 DDS on PCI 💡Stelioooos ??
November 1, 2009 at 12:31 pm #8843sigmacomMemberHello everyone!
Personally, I don’t support the idea of creating a carrier at 10.7 MHz (DDS or not), and upconverting it to 87.5-108 MHz.
To generate something at low frequency and then upconvert it to a higher frequency, is an ancient concept coming from the days where silicon chips did not exist, or they were unable to work satisfactory with high frequency outputs. Yes, engineers still do that today, but only in cases where they can’t do anything else.- Imagine if you have a 10.7 MHz FM carrier (risk=1), pass it through BPF (risk=2), use a low noise mixer (risk=3) with a stable (risk=4) and very clean VCO (risk=5), then use a VERY good 87.5-108 MHz BPF (risk=6) to get your FM band carrier. In this scenario, we have a chain of 6 points: if any of these gets malfunctioning, it will create a disaster at the output.
- Now imagine if you can create a clean carrier directly at 87.5-108 MHz (risk=1), and passing it through a LPF (risk=2). In this scenario, we have only 2 points of possible failure, and get the same -or even better- result on air.
So, why do the "10.7 MHz + upconversion"? Too much complexity, increased risk of getting a disaster, while you CAN have clean signal directly.
Concluding, I see no benefit and have to disagree with "PCI card with DDS 10.7 MHz".
I would preffer a "PCI card with DDS 87.5-108 MHz" and actually this IS my next project, for somebody here. 😉November 1, 2009 at 2:10 pm #8844LeifKeymasterStelios (Sigmacom), I agree with you completely, but I must say I was looking forward to reading Stavros (Camclone) explain his reasoning 🙂.

November 1, 2009 at 5:31 pm #8845camcloneMemberI was wondering if Leif was planning to make it’s hardware proccesor upgradable with an "extra" RF module !
It would be the first FM broadcast sound processor with RF output !!
Can you imagine ?!!! a small box that would be able to send 1 to 30 watts of driving RF power with the absolute perfect sound on the planet ! 🙂But , this may be a project without lots of money..
IN TOPIC : I thought that if someone could create a 10,7 MHz usb or pci card on a pc he would be able to make an ultra clean RF signal.
BUT , someone here has made the impossible! , a simple FM exciter with DDS technology which is "fully DDS "
AND HAS VERY LOW SPURIUS AND HARMONICS !! This was impossible for low cost DDS
Sigmacom ( the greek friend ) has made it !!!
…RVR couldn’t make it…and made it…10,7..)So, the 10.7 MHz project with upconversions is not usable after ..sigmacom’s code!
BUT ,after Sigmacom code invention.. the PCI or USB "fully DDS without ..10,7.." project is …. A MAGIC !!75 KHz modulation Breakaway Fm with Leif’s hardware MPX advanced clipper and a fully DDS exciter by sigmacom !!!, stable carrier , and a perfectly linear sound!! Ohhh my !!!!! This would be the loudest station on the PLaaaaaaaaaanet earth!!! 🙂
FINALY : i can tell you that i am gonna try on my radio station here in Crete Island ( in Greece ) the beta DDS FM exciter if Sigmacom . This 30 watt DDS beta exciter of Sigmacom will drive the 2.5 Kwatt RVR amplifier with the 130 KWatt EIRP system very very soon! Let’s test it!
thanks everyone!Stavr0s Christ0p0ul0s Rythm0z 1o4,5 ( google robot …you can’t find me.. 🙂
November 1, 2009 at 10:53 pm #8846JesseGMemberTo let the cat out of the bag, since it’s already peeking its head out anyways, the plan for a while now already was to have a COMPLETE solution in the box, so that you can just plug the exciter output of the box itself right into the transmitter. This is NOT an announced for-sure feature yet, but Leif wants to do it. And personally I think it’s an awesome idea.
The DDS design by sigmacom just happened to come at exactly the right place & time. Good on you, sigmacom. 🙂 And yeah, this box is going to sound SCARY GOOD.
November 2, 2009 at 12:05 am #8847camcloneMemberBob Orban was the first who made the impossible ( mpx clean 75 khz dev signal)
Omnia… made a face lifting…
Leif, has re-designed the word : mpx signal ( linear, clean n loud )
Sigmacom is going to make a "good" sound processor like breakaway fm sound 100% efficient by using a new method of low cost DDS exciter !We …the others.. are trying to tweak and colorize the sound of the presets made by the ""supervisors" of breakaway !
We are a big team ! and everybody has won!
Now it’s time for hardware!! yea yea yea! -
