I know that the *official* UNDO is not yet in anything but the Omnia-9 and 9/XE, but I was curious —
…Is Hans's Natural Dynamics filter with the declipper in front of it basically the same thing?
If so, how would Leif's implementation of the algorithm(s) react to material that has been crushed but doesn't have much percussion to begin with? There are a number of tracks that I would love to try and "restore" through a filter like this, as well as a with a reduction in ear-piercing EQ.
For instance — This track, which is Creative Commons Licensed… Not exactly crushed compared to a lot of stuff, but what really can be done with it…? ND makes it sound a little different, but I am not sure how much of a change to really expect. I would have to assume that a lot of the sound it has is in the mix.
And here is the track with the ND filter, turned up:
Note that the two clips are not volume matched.

Declipping is same in both. Actually near same. Expander part has same goal in both, but different way how to reach there.btw. Not so great ND settings in that track 🙂
December 13, 2013 at 11:37 pm #13745mpegfailsafeMemberI knew that the declipper was essentially the same. Interesting point about the "expansion."
The settings were pretty cranked up on that sample I posted, such as not having any band mixing or flat frequency response. Haha.
'Not sure how to go about having far better settings. Perhaps that question would be best saved for the Stereo Tool forums. 🙂

Then comes the pain-staking work to make sure it doesn't double-process anything that's already been processed by it, while still making it have an accurate amount of dynamics based on the input. (testable by comparing the processed original with a processed copy using various levels and types of limiting/clipping before it)
January 3, 2014 at 7:02 pm #13747mpegfailsafeMemberThanks for sharing! — It's rather interesting as the first clip (UNDO) seems to have a very subtle difference. The beta ND settings sound dramatically different though I suppose it becomes how should the track actually sound? This sort of thing makes me wish I had the stems for it just to hear what was going on in the beginning.
January 23, 2014 at 6:53 am #13748JesseGMemberI've improved my ND settings since that post. Starting to sound gooo-ood.
January 29, 2014 at 6:58 pm #13749mpegfailsafeMemberGreat. Will you eventually share the STS file, or is it going to just be integrated into the next release?
February 5, 2014 at 2:10 am #13750BokiMemberI heard latest Jesse's ND settings… and really sounds great!
February 6, 2014 at 5:06 pm #13751Energy RadioMemberWe'd like to integrate Declipper and Natural Dynamics with BBP, is this possible without using Stereo Tool?
Really like the sound of the Undo feature. Will this be in the update for BBP? and if so, when will that be?

[/quote]Like impact/clunk or bass EFX dll plugins 😉
February 8, 2014 at 12:54 am #13753Energy RadioMemberWe have both of those plugins and they are awesome 🙂 would like some more punch and impact though, and open up the music, escpecially when it has been crunched by so called 'mastering engineers' 😛
