Hey all,
I run a low-power FM station off my Win7 computer, using an external sound card and transmitting through a basic FM transmitter. I’ve optimized sound quality on the sound card, and settings for FM transmission. The sound is clear, but the volume is obviously lower than commercial FM stations.
I believe what I’m looking for is sound compression, in order to boost the output volume without bleeding over into distortion levels.
Am I on the right track, or do I need to be considering a hardware solution?

jTo be clear, you may be asking for two different things:
– How loud (maximum) is your feed supposed to be into your transmitter without clipping.
– A more "stable" sound across different songs/song types.For the first, you’ll have to do some experimentation with your equipment to determine that.
For the second, yes, Breakaway does what many hardware compressors can do, and more.
