Another input: Running test tone from BAE “settings” shows spurious free tone (no distortion).
April 28, 2023 at 8:01 am in reply to: How to reset the preferences in the Breakaway Pipeline? #17160pickyaudioguyParticipantDoesn’t work. Still distorted. It was perfect previously. I have a sample but not sure how I could attach it to this reply.
April 28, 2023 at 6:45 am in reply to: How to reset the preferences in the Breakaway Pipeline? #17159pickyaudioguyParticipantThat’ll work. Hopefully the distortion will be gone.
April 27, 2023 at 5:52 pm in reply to: How to reset the preferences in the Breakaway Pipeline? #17154pickyaudioguyParticipantIs there a “reset to defaults” on the interface? I must have missed it. If there isn’t a “default” button, I have no way to remember the settings to put them back. Is there an INI file or a file that could be deleted so a reinstall starts with defaults. I arrived at this by analyzing the sample rate converter (based on another post). Then foolishly I tweaked several parameters trying to understand the functionality of the pipeline. Now there are some distortions that I don’t remember being there so if I could reset the configuration entirely I thought that would clear up the distortion. Some of this distortion is also the windows “foolish” CAudioLimiter.
April 25, 2023 at 1:21 pm in reply to: Now Is Your Chance To Add To The Breakaway Audio Enhancer Wish/Bug List #17151pickyaudioguyParticipantWould it be possible to lower the lowest frequency for the “Bass Shape” which currently allows only as low as about 45-50Hz. I would like this to be able the go down as low as 30Hz to be able to control very low frequencies better.
April 25, 2023 at 12:19 pm in reply to: Now Is Your Chance To Add To The Breakaway Audio Enhancer Wish/Bug List #17150pickyaudioguyParticipantIt might be nice to be able to use BAE without having to use the Pipeline. I don’t have much experience with BreakawayOne but in the demo version I was able to configure it to use VB-Audio’s HiFi Cable for looping audio. Just a suggestion.
pickyaudioguyParticipantDoes this mean that BAE v1.44 will not require the Breakaway Pipeline Driver and other audio loopback devices could be used?
pickyaudioguyParticipantOMG… Another note: ASIO4ALL seemed to get messed up also so maybe there was a root change in the audio structure for Windows. I have another machine that I’m blocking Windows update so I’ll possibly get another chance to check this out.
pickyaudioguyParticipantSide note: I had Spectralisime from VB-Audio lose its license in that update also.
pickyaudioguyParticipantI had the same problem with Windows 10 yesterday when I opened BAE (configured to not autostart). After an update 2 days ago (computer off for a week or so) BAE was a non-starter. Had to uninstall. Also uninstalled my audio card driver (shotgun technique maybe to aggressive to figure out the real cause). Here the dangerous part and I’ll get yelled at… Used CCleaner (older style interface “virus free” version 6.00.9727) to clean the registry after uninstall and reboot (to unload any BAE/Audio card drivers). Been doing this for years and can’t say I’ve ever had CCleaner break anything that was installed properly. Actually never remember anything being broken by CCleaner (yet). CCleaner removed pointers to things not installed (could see audio related stuff being cleaned up) and then after a second reboot I reinstalled audio driver and (after required install reboot) made sure the audio card was working correctly and installed BAE v1.42.00. All’s back to functionality. Here’s what I see though when I check the version of the Pipeline.
Driver Provider: Eugene Muzychenko
Driver Date: 9/13/2020
Driver Version: 4.64.0.11318I did not notice if the driver was uninstalled upon the uninstall of the broken BAE so I was wondering if somehow there was a background update to the Pipeline since it’s not version 4.31 as Milky stated above.
June 7, 2021 at 7:08 am in reply to: Can’t install BAE v1.42.00 because v1.40.03 won’t uninstall? #16525pickyaudioguyParticipantThanks, that’s the answer I was looking for… If there’s no processing differences (BAE 1.40.03 works very nicely as is) I will leave as is on Win 8.1. After the second uninstall/reinstall BAE is installed normally in “C:\Program Files (x86)\Breakaway” and the INI is located at “C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Breakaway”. That seems a little odd and fairly hidden (and may be located by a Microsoft preference rather than the BAE installer) it appears to be storing and retrieving the configurations on stop/start.
Sorry for the slow response…
Thanks for the help.
May 20, 2021 at 7:30 am in reply to: Can’t install BAE v1.42.00 because v1.40.03 won’t uninstall? #16511pickyaudioguyParticipantThanks,
Retested a third time and used CCleaner (yikes!) to see if it could find some registry keys that point to strange locations (didn’t find anything that I’d let CCleaner touch). Retried the install and v1.42.00 will not work. Must by something in the registry still blocking the install. v1.40.03 does install reliably we’ll leave it there for a while.
Thanks for looking into it.
May 16, 2021 at 11:56 am in reply to: Can’t install BAE v1.42.00 because v1.40.03 won’t uninstall? #16509pickyaudioguyParticipantSo… In control panel “add/remove programs” there is no entry for the VAC. Only “Breakaway” shows up here. I cleaned my Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit as much as possible and then decided to attempt a second uninstall. To remove the VAC drivers I opened Device Manager and went to “Audio inputs and outputs” and “uninstalled” the two Breakaway Pipeline entries which appeared to work. Breakaway Pipeline also showed up under “Sound, video and game controllers” in the Device Manager also. I right-clicked and did an uninstall here. This popped up a message warning about the uninstall with a check box to remove the drivers (I selected this). That appeared to function. Now going to the add/remove programs I selected Breakaway and this uninstalled fine this time. I then checked for any “Breakaway” or “Pipeline” entries in the registry and they seemed to be gone here. After restarting several times and updating any apps on the machine I decided to install v1.42.00 and again it fails.
The v1.42.00 install window details were as follows:
Output folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Breakaway
Create folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Breakaway
Extract: vaclcskd.inf… 100%
Extract: vaclcskd.cat… 100%
Extract: wdmdrvmgr.exe… 100%
Output folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Breakaway\x64
Create folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Breakaway\x64
Extract: vaclcskd.sys… 100%
Output folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Breakaway
Execute: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Breakaway\wdmdrvmgr.exe” -q -e -h Root\{b9828378-6ae0-489a-a3d1-c3dfba538766}\0000 -i BreakawayPipeline_b9828378-6ae0-489a-a3d1-c3dfba538766 “C:\Program Files (x86)\Breakaway\vaclcskd.inf”
Delete file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Breakaway\x64\vaclcskd.sys
Remove folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Breakaway\x64\
Delete file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Breakaway\vaclcskd.inf
Delete file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Breakaway\vaclcskd.cat
Delete file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Breakaway\wdmdrvmgr.exe
Output folder: C:\Users\RADIOS~1\AppData\Local\Temp
Remove folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Breakaway\So… I decided to re-install v1.40.03 and that worked perfectly.
It appears that the installer for v1.42.00 has the issue on Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. Hopefully they can update the installer on the website shortly. Unless there is another way to install the new Breakaway (and the new Pipeline).
pickyaudioguyParticipantOh that problem… ;-D Your system is a lot more powerful than mine. What about large old heavy bed blankets to cover the shelving (and whatever is buzzing)? That might reduce the acoustic energy moving stuff on the shelves and it might attenuate the buzzing several dB by covering it also.
I usually pull my subs away from the wall somewhat (sometimes that’s awkward in a room) to reduce the room resonance. That will alter the response of the system somewhat which may or may not be acceptable. Got yelled at by my wife for putting tiny rubber pads under different “knick knacks” and behind picture frames and cabinet doors in our house to stifle the buzzing. I’ll listen to music (or a musical TV show) and suddenly I’m up off the chair twisting my head around tryin’ to find the buzzing (a picture frame, a cabinet door, some decoration, whatever). She always rolls her eyes and says, “don’t know what you’re hearing!?” The room will have strong sound energies at specific locations and these locations will vary with the frequency of the sound also. Like I said… Find what is vibrating and move it to another location or find small rubber or foam pads to dampen the buzz. Sometimes moving the speakers will also help the resonant locations. I can’t imagine how difficult that’ll be in a garage (let alone in my family room).
Now with digital audio it is possible to find music recorded with loose stuff in the background or distortion in one channel (making me think I’ve popped a speaker driver). Then I listen on headphones and the same sound is there.
Good luck.
pickyaudioguyParticipantI would assume that you’re playing vinyl records and the feedback is because your turntable is sitting in an easily “vibratable” location. I had a similar issue and had to choose a different location for my turntable (a heavy 1967 vintage TV console with heavy glass picture tube ;-D ). Then I found small foam rubber squares to place in key locations under the “belly” of the turntable to dampen the resonance (even though there were “fancy” anti-resonance feet on the turntable). Also had to place the turntable at a specific location on top of the old TV (off to one side). It worked in my case but it took quite a lot of trial and error. I had friends that thought their records sounded “boomy” versus the CD or digital version. It was this same issue.
