Just my two bits here. I don’t ham it up. But I use Breakaway on a handful of small NCE FM stations. I use CGSmooth on our Rockin’ Classic Hits format for loudness without fatigue. Not that fatigue is a major issue on the Ham bands.
But the point is that I turn up the "Range" control to deal with the fade at the end of songs going into jingles. I use a range setting of 70. It gets rid of most of the audio fade at the end of tunes, but it brings up the noise behind the newscasts and our pre-recorded jocks.
One thing that helps somewhat is the Noise Reduction control. I’ve sat and watched that thing gating various bands during long talk segments, so I know it’s working.
My only real suggestion here, I guess, is to tweak the Range control for the sweet spot between fan noise and total audio domination.
