or maybe it’ll be riocast v1 😉
you should 🙂also another fun fact that you maybe already know rio, but the meter code in Oddcast/Edcast is actually by Leif too. 🙂 many people don’t know that.
JesseGMemberPersonally I would use the slower computer to play music, then run the music and the mic into the mixer, and then run that into the fast computer for breakaway output & streaming. Understand?
JesseGMember
i have to buy a license for each input ( LIVE 1, LIVE 2, LIVE 3, LIVE 4)
yes.JesseGMemberWhat Leif suggested is doing that within the confines of his clipper, with the de-emphasis enabled so that the mp3 actually has a tad *less* peaks in the treble. Running pre-emphasis flag with pre-emphasis (and a limiter) in mp3 is the opposite, because it’s trying to get rid of noise that basically doesn’t exist, at the expense of loss of peak control, into a limiter to regain peak control (adding distortion), and then encoded into a codec that already has issues with high frequencies.
The other reason is you can’t be sure the decoder will properly handle pre-emphasized mp3s, since they really aren’t used ever, that i’ve seen, at all anymore. It’s a nice trick feature to have a fully capable mp3 encoder for streaming, but it doesn’t mean you’ll even want to ever do everything it’s capable of within the mpeg spec. 😉
JesseGMemberthe limiter is only used for pre-emphasised mp3s, since emphasis destroys peak control. 😉 and (hopefully) nobody actually uses pre-emphasized mp3s. so those are changes that shouldn’t effect anyone.
JesseGMemberHave you tried the "obsolete" preset INI trick?
JesseGMemberThat’s a tough question actually. It’s all too easy to just splash a ton of harmonics into the bass area, and hope the multiband makes up the difference, and what you gain in consistency is mostly because it makes a lot more things have mushy undetailed bass.
The controls in Breakaway now are a good start. It’s partially like an Orban where their suggestion is to adjust a bass shelving EQ, it’s partly changing the thresholds, and it’s partly adjusting how aggressive the bass clipper is acting (but not the mode/type of bass clipper because there are 3 you can select from when creating a preset) because of the bass hitting it harder. Increasing the aggressiveness of the bass clipper definitely will create more harmonics, some presets more than others, so that’s something to be aware of.
Also… I’ve been working on something new that can make certain material sound much larger than it does originally, without harming the peak dynamics at all. Eventually when we have time, I’m hoping to convince Leif that it might be worth while to try it with the fully dynamic methods I’m thinking of. 8) Sort of like the opposite of Undo, for audio that falls into the "very dynamic and also very sparse" category. A good example of such a track is "ABBA – Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" (although I haven’t heard this song on the Omnia.11 with an OPEN sounding preset, yet).
JesseGMember@ using plugins before Breakaway… ultimately what i’ve found is that the more refined the sound of Breakaway is to where you want to go… the more that altering the sound before hand gets in the way of the purity of that place in sound.
This includes any distortions or phase shifts or impulse responses of analog/digital gear as well.
Breakaway is capable of being a very pure sounding thing, and overall that’s what everyone that I know personally loves most about it, when they realize that. Undo is really a perfect partner for that. It’s the one effect that makes the most sense, but is also dynamic enough (completely) that it doesn’t get in the way of that purity, but rather enhances that feeling overall.
I’m hoping some people will try out Passive Aggressor long enough to realize that … sounds like that are the future. One like that which are even more transparent in their feeling, yet also more consistent. This is where I’m going anyways, with my personal processing habits. If when you hear it, and you agree, then you have to ask yourself… why would I broadcast anything that I wouldn’t personally prefer to listen to myself?
That question has existed since day one, but we’re just getting to the point where this purity can win even against sounds that are decently louder at a given playback gain. Even in the short term. Even on FM. And I can’t wait to see the first station running a 9 with Passive Aggressor.
JesseGMemberGet a good VST host, like Reaper or Audition. Then get a VST…

JesseGMemberThe GPU is about as pro as you can get tho. Quadra offers no advantages anymore. I have a GTX 460 and I can play any game at 1080 usually on maxed settings, or rarely at almost maxed settings, and get above 60 FPS at all times. i7 860, so your CPU is a hair faster too. 300 GB/s SSD as well.
Btw, the graphics quality BLOWS AWAY the current consoles.
You’ll be very happy with that system. 🙂

JesseGMember
Also, is there somewhere that sort of explains each of the current presets and their nuances and how they might be best used?
If you hold your mouse over the preset name in the dropdown, some help text will pop up. I’m not sure how helpful the text is though, as they are pretty short descriptions.
Thanks to the creators of this software who also choose to sell it at an affordable price.
Yep, Leif has an amazing thing going on here, and even after 5 years… Breakaway is completely alone in its category. 8)JesseGMemberYou’ll need Breakaway Live, correct. Breakaway Home Theater ("BHT") is a 5.1 core. Just because it has more channels, doesn’t mean that anything is independent. You won’t be able to do that with BHT, you need Live.
JesseGMemberIt’s not recommended to use FM mode, if you’re not using a hobby transmitter and calibrating it specifically for that transmitter. The audio quality will be degraded to less than the quality of some FM stations.

You also need decent stereo enhancer settings of course, since that’s a big part of that sound too…
Have you tried Motor City with the bass down a tad?
