It’s too expensive (there’s no room at all in the price of Breakaway to split it anywhere, I’d have to raise the price substantially), and it’s also too much of a hassle. Between Breakaway, Omnia, Linear Acoustic, I simply don’t have the time — I’m already struggling to keep up.

LeifKeymasterHypothetically. 🙂
LeifKeymasterNo. If you want an unstable piece of software that accepts any codec (and is unstable partly *because* of that), and is complicated to configure, it already exists — it’s called Edcast. I myself will focus on making an easy to use, stable product with codecs built in, even if it means releasing it through a company that can handle the licensing.
LeifKeymaster
What about the much storied and legendary LeifCast??
Probably not, unless you can think of a magical way to get licenses for all the codecs.
LeifKeymasterNope, Leifwire is audio over IP — including the internet. Not for streaming to users — more like an STL.
The pipelines will also receive a long overdue update, hopefully with all the problems solved this time 🙂.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterOK, that is a possibility. Lame_enc.dll is stable and pretty easy to use.

LeifKeymasterI can only do so many things at a time, so Breakaway DJ will take longer, but I do have update plans. It needs TCV support, 4-deck support, and perhaps the audio processing needs to run in the ASIO wrapper itself, for significantly reduced latency.

LeifKeymasterYes, there will be a similar update for Breakaway Live. The TCP/IP remote package for Breakaway Live should prove extremely useful to anyone who rigs small to medium size PA systems, as it will allow RTA calibrating the speakers wirelessly, while standing in the listening location with a tablet pc (windows/x86), and an RTA microphone connected to that tablet pc only — no need to run wires to the PC running breakaway live.
The remote control option will also allow touchscreen front panel control, making it feasible to build a dedicated machine in a HTPC chassis.I’m not sure what you mean by "stuck" — there’s a large number of presets and controls to adjust further, for nearly limitless possibilites, without having to be a processing expert to adjust it.

LeifKeymasterHowdy!
Hehe, Optipump CHR, I’ll have to remember that one 🙂.
Most automation system can output the current song title to a file, the same way you’re probably doing with SAM now. But, since Virtual DJ isn’t really an automation system, that doesn’t necessarily apply. Clever workaround with the stream directly from VDJ. Using the log file would certainly be doable, but it’s the kind of thing that requires programming or scripting. I wish I could help, but I’m barely afloat as it is.
If you set Breakaway Pipeline to be the default audio device, that takes care of capturing audio from any program, but it adds latency, and still doesn’t solve the title issue.
I wish I had better answers for you. Audio is complicated, metadata even more so, and connecting different apps (or devices) together often loses the metadata completely. TV stations with equipment for hundreds of thousands of dollars have the same exact problems as you/we do, if it’s any consolation 🙂.

LeifKeymasterExternal codecs, no — it’s a support nightmare. Case in point: Edcast.
Delete after X days is a good idea, but "Leave at least X gb free" is an even better one, especially since I would have to implement that one anyway.

LeifKeymasterAudio, multi instances are absolutely possible on the Omnia.9.
The full version gives you *three* separate program inputs, with completely separate processing for FM, HD1, HD2, HD3, Streaming 1, Streaming 2, Streaming 3 and Studio output. Each of the three streaming processors has its own leifcast, with multiple encoders for each. So, you could do your main station (with separate processing for FM and web) and two separate web streams, on the same box. The Omnia.9 has a TON of processing horsepower — even with all of the above, there’s plenty of room to spare for crazy new features in the future.
Yorkie, probably not, but a little bird whispered in my ear that it may be available as software through Omnia in the future, along with full control Omnia.9-style processing. If that little bird is well informed, this would take care of both licensing, support and marketing, and would free me to focus on what I do best — invent.

LeifKeymasterHmm. I’ve already added FLAC recording with silence detection to my framework. FLAC might be a bit big — I can’t do MP3 because of licensing, but I could do Ogg Vorbis. Splitting hourly is no problem. This could make a nice feature for that pro version, since every on-air station does have to log (afaik).

LeifKeymasterNice work!
I still have an Audigy 2 ZS laying around somewhere, maybe I’ll give it a go when I have a spare moment 🙂. (May be a while.)
///Leif
LeifKeymasterIndeed. It’s not worth making a plug-in — I’d have yet another product to maintain and support, and I don’t really see the usefulness of a stereo enhancer only plug-in. What audio processor were you planning to use it with? Stereo image control alone doesn’t solve any of the other audio problems that need solving, such as loudness consistency.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterHi Yorkie!
The update will have a lot of improvements indeed. As it is, I’m planning two versions:
BBP ($299) – Free upgrade for BBP ASIO owners
Brand new user interface
Improved clipper, perhaps even SSB stereo support.
Separate Range/Power/Speed for the AGC and the Multiband section
Some kind of EQ adjustment (probably Band Mix controls)
Simultaneous KS and ASIO support in any combination
Separate low latency studio processing path with speaker controller
And more.There will also be upgrade options/packages. Not sure about pricing yet, but I will make it good value for sure.
For example:
TCP/IP Remote Control (can run on your windows tablet!)
Dayparting
Touchscreen-capable user interface
Can run as service
Leifwire STL
And more.As you can see, there will be a tremendous amount of improvements.
However, let’s keep expectations realistic — Breakaway is not Omnia.9. They are different products, different target customers, not to mention different price tags.
Omnia.9 should be shipping by the end of August — it will be $9,995 for FM+HD+Streaming+Studio version, and $11,995 for the FM+HD+HD2+HD3+Streaming*3+Studio version. Omnia.9 is not expensive (compare features + quality versus price with our competitors offerings) — it’s Breakaway that’s insanely inexpensive. As soon as physical hardware is involved, that’s not possible to do.
And yet, as inexpensive as Breakaway has been, people still ask for discounts! Maddening. I’m certain that if Breakaway was $1, people would complain that it should be free.
Unfortunately, living isn’t, and neither is hard work.
