Sorry, didn’t mean to post that twice. There was some problem with the webhost, the post kept disappearing — I actually had to write it three times. Or, so I thought. Turns out I really only had to write it twice for it to appear once. 🙂

LeifKeymasterBreakaway Pipeline IS NOT the line input on your sound card. The whole point is to take Line Input out of the loop, so we can figure out where the noise that was bothering you is coming from.
Breakaway Pipeline is used to digitally connect to other programs on your computer, instead of using a sound card.
Are you running Breakaway Live 0.90.79? If not, please download it – it’s linked from the forum, from one of the threads on the top.
Yes, Breakaway Live needs documentation. I’m working on it. 🙂
///Leif
LeifKeymasterThe core itself is very similar. However, Aeromax is full control, and also has a million other required features to make it a TV processor.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterSo the new pipelines are worse than the old ones for you?
Ouch, not good.
I’ll see if I can make a downgrader tool.

LeifKeymasterHi Scotty!
You’re absolutely right — and that means it’s working! Even with drastically different input levels, Breakaway will yield a uniform output level.
If you want to retain some level differences, try lowering the "Power" slider, which actually decreases the ratio of both agc and multiband.
Regarding my name, the correct pronounciation (Swedish name) is actually "Clawson", however when I moved to the states I figured I’d pick my battles carefully, and just say "Clayson", while instead insisting that my first name not be pronounced "Leaf", which I can’t stand.
The vowel diphtong in my name (Leif) is actually the same exact diphtong as the "ay" in "Clayson" so that makes it nice and easy for english speakers.
Of course, for Thais, all bets are off. They don’t have that diphtong at all, so there’s just no way to get it right 😉.

LeifKeymasterI think the noise problem is either your DJ mixer or the Realtek on-board audio.
Try setting Input in BA to Line 1, and then install Winamp (or another MP3 player) and have it play into Line 1 as well. That way you get an all digital path for testing, and you can see if you still hear the noise.
If you don’t hear the noise, that means it wasn’t coming from BA, but from the audio input, which means it could be the Realtek input itself or the DJ mixer or anything else in the chain.
Have you enabled the Noise Reduction checkbox by the way?

LeifKeymasterSDF, it’s not impossible. We’re designing custom hardware for the box anyway, so it could be feasible to sell it separately as well.

LeifKeymasterNICE FIND Adam!
Yep, that’s mine 😉. Linear Acoustic has sold a lot of them.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterHi Herman!
It will not be a box with Breakaway inside! That, you can build yourself for a few hundred dollars. 🙂
It will be a full featured FM processor, competing with the flagships of other manufacturers, but with many more features and MUCH better sound.
Algorithmically it will have some parts in common with Breakaway, but it will have full control, all bells and whistles, and even more importantly it will have my previously unreleased Composite Clipper which yields 150% peaks in 100% modulation — something no other composite clipper is capable of.
You can listen and verify this yourself — download the Breakaway clips from the Dutch soundprocessing freakdag from http://www.mpxtool.com and analyze them. The program used there was BBP, but with the composite clipper back-end instead of the normal clipper back-end.
Don’t worry, I’ll make it more than worth the money for those who can afford it.
For those who can’t, BBP and BBP ASIO aren’t going anywhere! They will be around, and continue to receive improvements and upgrades.
Best,
///LeifLeifKeymasterquote :Yeah, I know how to adjust my volume that way.My apologies — I had to make sure to be thorough. 😉
-5 to +5 sounds really strange! It really shouldn’t be possible. Unless…
Are you seeing both Master and Wave volume?
Note the beautiful hand drawing 🙂.
If for example a program lowered the Wave volume, then turning up the Master volume all the way up would still not yield full volume.
If you don’t see both Master and Wave, please look at Options / properties in the system volume control:
Make sure they’re both checked in the list.
Any chance you could post a screenshot of the Breakaway settings? After you’ve completed the wizard and started Breakaway, right-click the meters (not the scopes) and choose Settings.
It should look something like this:
It could provide useful clues.
Best,
///LeifLeifKeymasterHow odd! I’m not quite sure what’s going on — never heard of anyone having this particular problem.
When you get a chance to try Breakaway again, could you try the Reference Classical preset with all settings in the middle? This is the most gentle preset yet offers strong normalization — I would be very surprised if any underwater artifacts surface with these settings.
If you ever have to shut down Breakaway, you should be able to adjust the volume from your standard windows volume control. Usually you can find this volume control by double-clicking on the little speaker down in the tray:
However, if you don’t see it, you can always click Start, Run, and type in sndvol32.
You definitely should not have to restart Windows, although you may have to restart your player or other programs that play audio.

LeifKeymaster
Many thanks!
"Two speakers"… dude, this feature is even helpful in calibrating one speaker.
Good point 🙂.
is possible to add peek hold for RTA and maybe time adjust for peek hold?
btw.. great tool
Thank you!
Well.. The algorithm is inherently insensitive to peaks due to the sharp filtering. It takes a while for levels to register. What would you actually use the peak-hold for?

LeifKeymasterThe box will hopefully be ready this year, and it will be too expensive for home use.
It will be a bit cheaper than existing high-end processors, but not by too much — we’re aiming for about $8000. There’s really no reason for it to be extremely inexpensive — that niche is already filled by BBP and BBP ASIO 🙂.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterUsually worse!
Too much of a good thing is still too much. The same thing happens no matter which processor was used in the broadcast. Applying broadcast processing yet again tends to push things over the top.
This is, incidentally, why the Bypass button is so easy to access 🙂. Nothing wrong with bypassing while listening to a stream, I do it all the time.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterWorse! Too much of a good thing ain’t good. The same thing will happen if you listen to a stream processed with any processor regardless of brand, and run it through another processor. That’s why there’s a very convenient bypass button. 🙂
