Sure, go to http://www.claessonedwards.com and under "Breakaway Broadcast" on the left side, click on Documentation and then Main Controls.

Ricardo, was the pipeline involved in your configuration at all?

You can get digital MPX output from BBP by using a sound card that supports 192k digital output, however:

There are, as far as I know, NO exciters with digital MPX input.

In the configuration I described before, the exciter would have to do the stereo gen and rds.

ICY, the red flashes are input overload, turning the input level down was the right thing.

I may need to improve the default settings for Challenger, as the current default settings are over the top.

There’s actually no manual for Breakaway Live yet, I haven’t had time to write it. There’s a manual for Breakaway Broadcast which explains a lot of things, but nothing about the Speaker Calibration functionality. I’ll have to do this some time.

Breakaway can be ordered from anywhere in the world!

I speak Swedish, English and Thai. I don’t speak Dutch except for:

Absolutely. Any sound card with AES/EBU digital output coupled with an exciter with AES/EBU digital input will do exactly this. You’ll want to use a digital direct-to-channel exciter like the Nautel M50 for there to be any real advantage though, as otherwise there’d be a D/A conversion in the transmitter anyway.

Please note that while you may gain a theoretical advantage, you won’t gain an audible one. D/A’s today easily do 100 dB signal to noise ratio. FM does 70 dB on a *very* good day.

    Ricardo,

    1) That’s been in there from the start. If you make the window small enough that the scopes and meters go away, they will no longer be calculated or drawn. You can see this in the CPU usage in task manager.

    2) A L-R flower scope would be really nice, and it’s on my list of things I want to do when I have time.. When that is, is another question, but it’s a feature I want to add at some point.

By the way have you tried the autobalance plug-in?

That is very strange — if you see Breakaway Live working (meters moving), that must mean audio is entering Breakaway (as opposed to the sound card), so then if you hear anything at all it would have to have come from Breakaway.

What devices did you select for Input and Output?

That is correct, provided that your exciter itself doesn’t require compensation.

Good exciters should not require compensation — no other FM processor vendors even offer exciter compensation.

So, with a Trace 8, the installation procedure will be equivalent to using the MPX output of most hardware processors.

James, I’m not sure I understand the problem. Can you explain as exactly as possible what you’re trying to do, what worked before but doesn’t now? Include screen shots if you can.

Sorry about the highly inaccurate estimate. I am working on BAE though. I’ve added presets, added the FM mode, fixed several issues, but right now the biggest outstanding issues are fixing the resume-from-standby problem, the "child process not responding" problem, and better windows 7 and vista support. It would not make sense to release a new version before these are actually fixed.

Michi, thank you for the suggestion, but what you’re describing is a really bad idea for the exact reason you described. When the user tries to lower the volume in this manner, Breakaway will see a quiet input signal and do it’s job and increase the level again, until it runs out of range.

In fact, this very situation is the reason the volume controls are disabled by default, as conceptually, it cannot work. And, when things fail even in theory, practice doesn’t stand a chance.

You might want to try Breakaway Live then — it’s a much better fit for what you’re doing, lower price, and lower cpu.

I didn’t see an ASIO sound card in the list, how come you’re using BBP ASIO? ALC662 isn’t even 192k capable so no mpx out.
