Thanks, guys!
Dude…
You just made me cream my pants.
AFAIK you’re not my type, but I’m flattered just the same 😀.
Here’s a new version:
http://www.ceaudio.com/beta/breakaway_d … _alpha.exe
Changes since 0.90.03:
When using KS output, output channel mapping is now:
Channel 1/2: Core A
Channel 3/4: Core B
Channel 5/6: Core B (was previously silence)
Channel 7/8: Core A (was previously silence)I did this because of problems with getting good 4-channel output from my Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop.

LeifKeymasterThat’s normal — quite often lossy encoders will allocate more bits to L+R than L-R, so the L-R will have more artifacts. When you boost the stereo field, those artifacts are really brought out 🙁.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterEdcast doesn’t contain any encoders, it uses encoders already installed in the system, or lets you download them yourself. This is one of the many reasons why it’s so unstable, so making a Leifcast version without encoders isn’t an option, as it would defeat the purpose. 🙁
///Leif
LeifKeymasterI’d love to release it. Would certainly cut down on the time i have to spend supporting edcast! Rest assured, the day I solve the licensing problem is the day I’ll release it.

LeifKeymasterFirst public alpha release!
http://www.ceaudio.com/beta/breakaway_d … _alpha.exe
Let me know what you think 🙂.
Please note that this is designed for actual DJing with a large PA system, not broadcasting, and this is reflected in the presets. I’ve kept only a few presets — those that showed promise for large sound systems — and even then they are much more open and dynamic than their Broadcast cousins. Plutonium in Breakaway DJ is not as aggressive as Plutonium in the other products 🙂.
Also, I don’t have a new jingle yet, so it has the demo jingle from Breakaway Live. However, the price of Breakaway DJ will be $99.
Best,
///LeifLeifKeymaster
It’s the first time i have problems with small clicks on my Breakaway Broadcast ( BBP ) version. using .93 version!
How odd! Could you post a screenshot of your I/O settings window?
To really get an idea of what your sound is, I personally think it’s best to listen on everything.
I couldn’t agree more. If the signal stands up to scrutiny with reference cans, it will probably sound OK on everything. On the other hand, just because it sounds OK in a pair of speakers across the room, doesn’t mean it would still be acceptable in headphones.
And I listen at different volume levels, too. There’s a whole different experience to be had depending on the sound level, and that too can reveal different types of audio problems at different levels.
Very true. Over-processed signals tend to sound awful at background-level listening. So true about clock-radios too! For example, I think I may need to fix Eruption, because it seems to have some severe midbass spectral intermodulation problems which I didn’t notice in the big speakers I initially used to design it, but notice very clearly in the Tivoli Model One. That’s way beyond a clock radio, but still. Maybe I should make sure to listen in the clock radio too 😉.

LeifKeymasterYeah.. It would be nice to have a Pro version with more channels in the future, but for now I’ll focus on two channels. Gotta start somewhere 🙂.
Besides, do DJs really have audio interfaces that have mic preamps with separate channels, so that the audio could be software-processed before going into the mic input on the mixer?
///Leif
LeifKeymasterTrue. When you use an audio processor, especially with aggressive processing, you have be real careful with the quality of source material. You can’t download random tracks from the internet and expect good results every time — it just doesn’t work that way.
If you play the song without breakaway, and turn the volume way up, I’ll bet you’ll hear the same problem.
If you want to prevent BBP from ever turning up the volume this much, you can lower the Range control — that’s what it’s for! 🙂
Best regards,
///LeifLeifKeymaster
i prefer Traktor more (better quality).
Man, you weren’t kidding.
I haven’t played with VirtualDJ much at all before. Now that I’m testing it with Breakaway DJ (and thus an oscilloscope) hooked up, guess what I found:
With the bass control in VirtualDJ turned all the way up, even though I’ve turned the deck gain and master gain down:
I mean, come on guys, that’s just inexcusable.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterBasically yes, although it has evolved a bit since AtomixMP3 🙂.
Breakaway DJ is an audio processor for DJs, low latency, with an ASIO driver to directly interface with DJ software, such as VirtualDJ, Traktor, or whatever you like. Two separate cores so that you can process either Deck A/Deck B separately, or Master/Cue separately, for the ridiculously low price of $99 🙂.
I’m aiming for it to be cpu-efficient enough to run together with DJ software even on a standard netbook (Atom CPU).
It’s not done yet (I started a week ago) but it’s running now, the ASIO driver is working — it should be downhill coasting from here. (Yea right, like that ever happens…)

LeifKeymasterquote :RTA analyzer do not change to red so easy at 0db.
I believe at +0.2db – +0.4db will be great.That would be great. The only problem is, there is no +0.2dB in digital audio. There’s a brick wall at 0.0dB, and it’s not going anywhere — that’s just the nature of digital audio.
The trick is to stay below 0.0dB, so that you NEVER ever hit it. That’s why the red flash is there — it’s supposed to be annoying! Hitting it is an abnormal condition, an error.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterLooks beautiful 🙂.
///Leif
LeifKeymasterNo clue. The horrendous audio quality of that box makes it unworthy of analysis. They sure know how to market, though! 🙂
///Leif
LeifKeymasterThe new transparent and x64 compatible toolbar isn’t in yet, but it will be very soon. I’ve finally fixed the stability bug I spent a week looking for, and it turns out it wasn’t even my bug. I wonder how many man-hours have been wasted worldwide due to this bug!
Now that it’s working, i’ll release it shortly.

January 3, 2010 at 1:48 pm in reply to: lost sync , pitch after "upgrading" to emu 0202 or .93 prob? #9443LeifKeymasterI’m running XP Embedded SP2 on a Celeron E1200 (1.6 GHz, 512 MB RAM) on a USB stick, no HDD, with EMU 0202 of the following version:
Control Panel Version 1.3.0.0, Driver Version 6.00.01.0001, Firmware Version 8.04.
Audio Realtime Priority off, ASIO buffer size 384 (2ms, 32-bit).
BBP ASIO version is 0.90.83 though. Maybe I should upgrade to 0.90.93 before I say anything, but I haven’t changed anything I/O related in BBP ASIO in a long time. I’ll upgrade right now, and we’ll see what happens.
