    Oh my God… HA- I am a first-class idiot. 😯

I mis-read the other preset… I thought they both said "Protection Clip 6dB" and "Protection Clip 12dB". Had no idea it said "Protection Limit"; please excuse the dyslexia.

Also, great idea to try the pre-EQ with Power reduced — it just so happens that I am already using Twente with power reduced, so the idea fits perfectly.

Awesome, awesome. Wow, Leif dude I may not have to keep bugging you for the final band mix after all.

Yes, yes, excellent. [evil mad scientist grin]

I’ll try out this scheme using demo versions, just for play.

Still a little concerned that no limiter would be in the chain. Jesse I hear you; maybe the limiter isn’t that critical because the clipper’s so good, but I have to think that the limiter helps the clipper be that much better.

Oh, and no worries on using too much EQ boost… my particular intention is to reduce a band. (I use the "Twente" preset, but it has a bit too much of the high frequencies)

Thanks Jesse; it’s good to hear someone close to the Leifmeister suggest that the intermediate version may be coming soon.

I will certainly try to hold tight. Me so HUNGRY for the band mix adjustments.

Hmmm let me see, does it involve running it through BBP twice?

You could do the first pass through BBP and use only the AGC and multiband compressor. (Turn down the Final Drive so no limiting or clipping occurs) Then run it through some EQ. And finally run through BBP again, with the Protection Clip preset.

Aah, wait a minute, that probably wouldn’t work either. "Protection Clip" doesn’t appear to engage the limiter, so there’d be no limiter in the chain.

Okay, I give up… await your results…. much thanks for any genius ideas!

[quote author=”sebastien.wittebolle”]…BBP has an agc (automatic gain control) that stereo tool doesn’t…

I think Stereo Tool does have an initial AGC. He calls it a "dual band pre-limiter" for some reason, but it is right before the multiband so I guess that’s it.

It’s refreshing to see that ST lets you shape the final band mix, as many of BBP’s presets are "almost perfect, but I want a different EQ". I’ll have to see if ST has the quality and loudness though; haven’t compared the two yet.

Jesse- Thanks once again for making your research results public. Little hints along the way save everyone time, and in this life there’s nothing as valuable as time.

Wow. WOW. Leif is that patentable? I hope so, for your benefit. Maybe something to consider.

You’re using the Omnia and the DBMax? That sounds a little strange… usually you’d get a pretty bad result if you use 2 processors.

Adding a 3rd processor would definitely exacerbate the problem.

This would be like adding sugar to your coffee, then adding saccharine, and then adding aspartame. Pretty soon there’s no coffee left.

What type of transmission is this? AM / FM / Web?

…and even using WAVs won’t always help, because some songs are mastered with the IM distortion built right in! I noticed it a few years ago, on a bunch of songs by t.A.T.u. (before I knew what it was called). I think the recent tune "American Boy" by Estelle shows it too.

If one were to question these producers, I bet they would revert to their usual defense, and claim that this is an "artistic use" of IM distortion. Aaack

    😥

Thanks Leif- you seem to have read my mind; I was reading this thread and I wanted to ask you for an example of IM distortion so I could train my ears to recognize it. Mucho gratitude as always.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing when I tried VAC 3 on Vista. Got the Blue Screen so I assume something’s hinky when trying that with Vista.

Leif- I was doing a search for Spartacus to try it out, and Google led me to a comment you wrote on another message board a few months ago. You stressed the importance of using only phase-linear plugins with Breakaway, and that Spartacus is not phase-linear. Can you give a quick summary of the "price to be paid" if one uses a non phase-linear plugin?
