Folks,

MP3 Stream:

AAC Stream:

The link was just missing the .m3u extension for the mountpoint URL…

Hi Sebastien,

I use a Breakaway Pipeline to directly link Jazler Simplepack to Breakaway Broadcast.

Thanks,
Conor

I agree with JesseG.
I don’t like the new website design.
Plus ever since then, I can’t get a listing in the new YP directory using DNAS V1.9.8 and Edcast even though public server is configured in the DNAS and in Edcast.
I don’t think it’s an issue with Edcast since it’s the DNAS’s job to update the YP directory.
Seems more like we will need DNAS V2.0 to get listed maybe?
Anyone else finding this issue?

Thanks,
Conor

Yep,

Timmy is right…
The plug-in version works great with Breakaway Live / Broadcast! 🙂
Caveat – If you plan to use BBP and aacPlus for your stream, watch out for overshoots – don’t forget to attenuate by about 2-3dB first before Edcast in the encoder chain…

Hi ASchuelke,
It’s my understanding that by turning bass down to -10, I’m actually lowering the threshold, correct? Does this mean that the bass is controlled a little better?
Here is some interesting stuff that Leif posted some time ago about what happens in the algorithm when we adjust Bass Cut / Boost and / or Bass Shape:
When cutting bass, EQ isn’t affected. Instead, the B1 and B2 multiband agc thresholds are lowered (compared to where they are by default in the selected preset).

Bass Cut -50, Shape +50: B1 -12, B2 -12
Bass Cut -50, Shape 0: B1 -12, B2 -6
Bass Cut -50, Shape -50: B1 -12, B2 0

Bass Cut -25 gives you half the cut (i.e. -6, -3 for shape 0).

Bass Cut is a great way to clean up the sound, because it still retains the bass boost inherent to many presets, while lowering the thresholds for essentially "more bass compression".

If you BOOST, on the other hand, several things happen — more and more depending on how far you turn it up. Be careful, there’s a lot of available power here .

Assuming Bass Boost +50 (bassclippingorama):

Shape 0: B1 out mix +12, B2 out mix +3, B1/B2 agc thresh: +7.25, and PEQ +14.5dB, 23 Hz, 3.0 Octaves
Yes, that’s insane. I never intended for people to actually use Bass Boost +50, I just had to make sure the maximum setting was sufficiently over the top, to be able to tell anyone deaf enough to want more to go away, or buy a subwoofer.

Looking at a more sane bass boost setting of +15:

Shape 0: B1 out mix +4.75, B2 out mix +1.25, B1/B2 agc thresh 0 (the thresholds don’t start rising until bass boost is ABOVE +20), and PEQ +4.75dB, 23 Hz, 3.0 octaves

Let’s stick to bass boost +15 and explore other Bass Shape options (agc threshold omitted since they’re not affected at this setting):

Shape -50: B1 out mix +4.75, B2 out mix +0.00, PEQ +4.75dB, 40 Hz, 1.0 octaves
Shape -33: B1 out mix +4.75, B2 out mix +0.00, PEQ +4.75dB, 35 Hz, 1.6 octaves
Shape -16: B1 out mix +4.75, B2 out mix +0.25, PEQ +4.75dB, 28 Hz, 2.3 octaves
Shape 0: B1 out mix +4.75, B2 out mix +1.25, PEQ +4.75dB, 23 Hz, 3.0 octaves
Shape 16: B1 out mix +4.75, B2 out mix +2.0, PEQ +4.75dB, 33 Hz, 3.0 octaves
Shape 33: B1 out mix +3.0, B2 out mix +3.0, PEQ +4.75dB, 50 Hz, 3.0 octaves
Shape 50: B1 out mix +0.0, B2 out mix +4.75, PEQ +4.75dB, 71 Hz, 3.0 octaves
Hope this helps,
Conor

Thanks JesseG, Lpy and Leif!
On the other hand, the original song "Marlena Shaw – Woman Of The Ghetto" is nice wide stereo!
It is for sure – plenty to widen in the original song – from around 1973! 🙂
Great tune – Just played it there – I have an 8 min 20 sec live version of it on "Sampled Volume 1" CD.

"Sampled Volumes 1 – 4" and "Discovered – A Collection Of Daft Funk Samples" (Songs Sampled By Daft Punk) – The best albums in my entire CD collection – Soul, Jazz, Disco and Funk originals, some of which you might not have known existed, that have been sampled throughout the years! 🙂

Hi Leif,

The Challenger Stereo Enhancer sounds fab – great stuff! 😀
Just noticed this evening while playing "Blue Boy – Remember Me" that Challenger is neither widening or narrowing the stereo image for this song on any band…
It works great for all other songs – and I have tested quite a few! 🙂
The source is a 44Khz 16 Bit Stereo PCM .WAV file ripped directly from CD single.
See the screenshot below for settings etc:

Any ideas?
Could it be detecting it as a mono signal by any chance?

Thanks,
Conor

Excellent Leif,

Yet another milestone achieved!
Have been looking forward to a Breakaway Stereo Enhancer / Expander for some time!
Can’t wait to check it out later – Spartacus won’t be needed anymore… 🙂

Hi Timmy,

Great decision putting Windows XP on it!
I have tested Breakaway Live / Broadcast on 3 machines using both Windows XP SP2 and Windows XP SP3 and they work like a dream – flawlessly on all… 😀

However for me, not the case with Vista (Server 2008 is based on Vista, as Leif explained)!
I could never get it to pass flawless audio on the machine I tested it on (Intel Pentium Dual Core 1.8Ghz Processor).
Some poorly designed drivers in Vista created massive latency issues for me!
I ran DPC Latency Checker on Vista and basically I had to disable any hardware in Device Manager that wasn’t needed to run the PC at a minimum including networking, wireless, DVD etc!
Even still I had clicks and pops and latency issues! 🙄

So for me Vista lasted a total of about 3 hrs passing audio with clicks and pops and latency issues, until I had more than enough of it and went back to XP with beautiful flawless audio! 😀

quote :

I guess my main question is how slim can I get XP to run??

Start off by not putting any unnecessary Dell software on it like Dell Quickset etc…
There are lots of other things you can turn off and configure in XP that you don’t really need to run and will make your fresh copy run even faster for you!
Google has lots of info on this if you do a search! 🙂

Hi Modman,

See image below..
I am using the VST Winamp Bridge to run it with Breakaway: 🙂

Spartacus.JPG[/attachment:hc3bop0u]

You can pick either Amount or Length from the drop down list…
I had to e-mail Matthias to find this out as I couldn’t find it either! 😉
It’s confusing because when you select the drop down list, you can’t actually see Length there until you highlight it, but it’s there!
There you go! 8)

Hope this helps,

Hi Scott,

The VST plug-in version of StereoTool 3.40 is not free – so to use it on one of your DAWs as a VST plug-in you will need to buy it…
However if you use it with Breakaway Live / Broadcast Processor you can download the Winamp version DSP plug-in – that version is free for what we will be using it for! 8)
You will only need to use the VST Bridge to load Spartacus in Breakaway Live / Broadcast Processor…
I assume you can use this VST Bridge for any VST to DSP plug-in conversion! 🙂
I have only used it with Spartacus though… 😉

Hi Leif,
I’m afraid not — it’s a bug. Forgot to change the scale when turning BBP into Live. (Gotta start from somewhere, right?) I’ll fix it for the next version.
When Breakaway Live came out first, it was darn perfect for a first beta! 8)
Not bad going at all when you consider the differences that exist between Breakaway Broadcast and Breakaway Live! 😀

Best regards,
