I first had the issue back before Breakaway; VAC 4.08 and Volume Logic. Everything was fine for a couple of days and then it would randomly start stuttering and wouldn’t recover until I attended to it.
There is something I forgot to mention that could help work this out… say for example Winamp was playing when it began stuttering, it would run in slow motion. The pitch would remain the same, but the tempo would slow right down, hence the stuttering effect.
VAC 3.12 has not does this at all and has been fine up until a couple of weeks ago for some odd reason. So, I just did a reformat, reinstalled everything, and gave that other virtual audio program a go (the link I posted from the other thread).
Using their equivalent of VAC’s "audio repeater" program, in addition to the encoders running, was enough to begin the stutter. It would’ve eventually done it anyway, I just sped up the process adding the audio repeater thing to the mix, so-to-speak 😛
That audio repeater program itself isn’t the actual cause of the stuttering – anything would do it – that’s just an example of adding another program to the pipeline and throwing it off the edge.
I tried the Breakaway Pipeline, with your added registry entry… same thing.
Back on VAC 3.12 now, and everything is fine. If the reformat fixed whatever issue I was having, this will run fine for months.
lpy7MemberGood/bad news. I was still able to get it to stutter with that reg fix. But, that other virtual audio program I linked to in the other thread works much the same. Maybe it isn’t the program that’s at fault. But then the question becomes, what is it?
The problem for me hasn’t been the number of pipelines running (although I’ve never really tried that), but more to do with how much one pipeline is doing. For example, having music and one streaming encoder running might run ok, but then bringing a second or third streaming encoder into the equation could be enough to tip it over the edge ie stutter.
Maybe anyone who has the problem should post their machine specs and see if there’s a pattern.
The two I’ve had problems with are Pentium 4 HT. WDM becomes unstable and stutters, MME has had its problems (I hope it’s fixed now) but hasn’t had the stutter issue.
lpy7MemberIndeed. Whilst google searching to see what else is around, I read a bit of info about Kernel streaming and how it can be quite complicated. You’d that that creating a driver that does nothing in a sense would be easy hehe… guess not.
If I were to try the Breakaway Pipeline again, latency/delay aside, what would be the most stable settings in its Control panel?
EDIT: I found another one! No idea how stable it is, but worth a try: http://www.e2esoft.cn/vsc/
lpy7MemberAhhh! did it again. So I guess it’s not Breakaway.
What happens is, the audio just dies, even halfway through a track. Everything still functions as normal though. The only way to get the audio back though is to close everything that uses audio in some form (the VAC control panel tells you if anything’s in use), and then reopen them. Or to reboot.
I think it’s time for a reformat, unless there’s something I can try? I’m guessing VAC is the culprit. Anyone know an alternative to VAC? I think I’ve seen one somewhere but can’t remember the name. Or maybe Leif can write his own version? 😛
lpy7Memberhmmm did it again. The only thing I’ve changed recently is Breakaway, so I’ve gone back to 0.90.77. I can’t say for sure what that problem is, but if it still does it with this version, then I’m guessing it’s something else.
Damn. And I was really enjoying that stereo enhancer. 🙂
lpy7Memberquote :Is there any way to make it work while avoiding VAC / Pipeline altogether?I can’t see how, but you never know.
I don’t wanna go into too much detail because there’s some personal coding involved, but it’s:
Audio source/player [Virtual Cable 2] —> Breakaway Live (see attached pic) —> Encoder [Virtual Cable 1]
Each program is seperate, but linked together by VAC.
P.S. It’s back to normal now. Been running over an hour with v3.12 and all is good (for the next two months or so anyway 😛)
lpy7MemberIt runs about two months after a reboot on v3.12 before anything can (and usually does) happen. I just wish I knew exactly why. I’d say VAC is the most likely candidate, or maybe the OS becomes unstable for some other reason. Oh well. At least that other minor bug can be fixed 🙂
lpy7MemberFound a bug:
* Click Settings
* Click I/O Config, Warning windows pops up
* Close Settings window
* Click either Yes or No in warning window, Breakaway crashesAlso, the new version of Pipeline (4.9.5) that recently replaced the slightly older version, does that fix the stuttering issue myself and a couple of others were having (had to resort to VAC 3.12, which would be fine for about two months, and then start playing up)? I’m giving it a go, and it seems alright so far, but I’m not 100% confident just yet.
Edit: The audio isn’t stuttering, but randomly cut out, just like it did with 3.12. If I stop all audio applications (basically everything) and then start them again, it’s goes back to normal. Don’t know what’s happening, and it’s hard to diagnose when it’s live on air, so I’m back to 3.12… hopefully it lasts a couple of months again. oh man..
lpy7Member
Hi Leif,
The Challenger Stereo Enhancer sounds fab – great stuff! 😀
Just noticed this evening while playing "Blue Boy – Remember Me" that Challenger is neither widening or narrowing the stereo image for this song on any band…
It works great for all other songs – and I have tested quite a few! 🙂
The source is a 44Khz 16 Bit Stereo PCM .WAV file ripped directly from CD single.
See the screenshot below for settings etc:Any ideas?
Could it be detecting it as a mono signal by any chance? Thanks,
Conor
I have a rip of that song from CD and the Stereo enhancer works fine with it. You must have a mono recording of it.lpy7Memberahhh, same here. New version isn’t saving the settings. Everything else is working fine.
lpy7MemberPlutonium, NR, Stereo enhance, this thing’s a monster! 🙂 Love it
But what does the Max atten do?
lpy7MemberNever did like the Dance preset.
I was using Reference Heavy for the last few months but made the switch to Plutonium NR. It gives a better bass and more consistent treble. Many songs vary in or lack treble and Plutonium gives an overall better balance.
lpy7MemberI see now, all makes sense. Was just learning how the new stuff works.
I just blinked, and there’s .90.77. Nice.
lpy7MemberI just installed 0.90.76, excellent idea having Core 1 for speakers and 2-4 for broadcast.
I thought it’d be good to have Core 1 as the speaker output and Core 2 for streaming but then I heard the "Live Demo" thing. I guess it can’t be done with only a single core registered?
lpy7MemberI was thinking something similar too, because Audio Repeater is handy, but could be done better.
I believe the glitches happen because it doesn’t have Adaptive SRC, something Leif knows much about 🙂
