Thank you Milky, it was simpler than that (I think I only have one core/ set of outputs so nothing to re-direct)?
I actually had this same issue in 2020, and I couldn’t solve it then… But it turns out that I finally figured out how to turn off the MPX Output – and the ‘echo-y’ ness went away.
I also detected a high pitched ring, not super loud but I think the ‘extra’ MPX signal was also the cause there. So problems solved… for now (smile).
beej6ParticipantAh, I’m thankful for Ba1! I’ve returned to it after a few years away – I had a hardware streamer as an STL (for a LPFM station) for several years… but it just failed this past week.
After a quick refresher I was able to get Ba1 in use both as an STL (Encoder1), and also as a stream encoder (encoder 2) for our streaming audio.
I’ve experienced something similar to polopudding above – my STL/Encoder1 is “echo-y” even though processing is “bypassed”. Same settings for Encoder 2 to our audio streaming is fine.I think I only have a license for one FM core so I don’t have an option to direct outputs to more than one Output 1-2? Is that on the “studio” side because I don’t see that option on the “transmitter” side…
My setup is complicated by the fact that the STL (now Ba1) is feeding another audio processor, but I’m trying to adjust the Ba1 variables first before addressing that processor.

beej6ParticipantUpdating mainly for my own memory…
After a period of testing another processor, I'm back to BaOne again.
Orban Optimod has been my preset of choice previously… however, I am testing a slightly different direction this go around. Using "New York" which I used to find a bit loud but have decided for our little LPFM to "push" the loudness, not that it may matter all that much given our signal strength, but to try a different approach. Adjusted Brilliance down a bit, 55 to 52… Also turned on multipath migration, medium.
beej6ParticipantRemember the stacks of analog boxes that (some stations still use! to) process the audio? In a sense, even if in theory it is not required, some stations will tweak and add one or more processors to the "main" processor, whether an Optimod 8200 or BAO. They are usually trying to achieve a "signature sound" beyond what the main processor is producing.
As you correctly note, there are compressors/ limiters that aim to deliver to the processor as even, steady audio as possible so that the processor can do its work. I have one on my webstream, mainly because this amateur, even with a professional webstream encoder, preferred the evenness of the output with a simple SPL3220 in front of the encoder.
beej6ParticipantI *just* now got the thread… I think Prince had a "7" song too…
beej6ParticipantWhy didn't I think of this before? Shazam tells me that #2 – the demo song for the "Undo" feature – is
Miley Cyrus – 7 Things
beej6ParticipantThat is a cool video, I must say, I'm going to have to go back and watch it again… because MrKlorox sidetracked me (smile).
I got three out of the five songs Leif was mixing to:
1. Fleetwood Mac – Seven Wonders
2. ? (short selection)
3. Tasmin Archer – Sleeping Satellite
4. ? (non-English or mixed duet?)
5. Norah Jones – Seven Yearsbeej6ParticipantIs there a tutorial for reading these logs?
I believe I have a known issue of our network, and I'm just confirming that Ba1 is logging them in some way – I think I see at least two ways: the Streaming log shows an interruption, and the Service log notes a "restart" of the service (even I have not manually turned it on or off? Or it's possible I did and couldn't remember).beej6ParticipantFinally trying to resurrect my BaOne setup, actually new transmitter side computer…
On the 1/O, all the tests run well, but actual I/O status = Init failed, error – unknown error… Any ideas? I can dig deeper into my audio card (Marian Trace Alpha).
beej6ParticipantThanks Milky. I'm afraid this wasn't quite as easy. Besides forcing a reboot, I also tried to switch CPUs, using the sound card in a different computer.
None of this worked. Back in the original CPU, it's as if BaOne and the existing soundcard (which have been running together for >9 months) can't talk to each other. And it may not be the card, either… because I have my backup audio processor (OmniaSST) back on the air, and it has no issue with the soundcard.
I may have to go back to the BaOne config, maybe something got corrupted?
beej6ParticipantWell I've given several presets a go here, tweaking Brilliance sometimes as Jesse has suggested. These include
X Marks the Spot
Celeste
Orban Optimod (see another thread in this forum, I want to say it's Ricardo Dalisay's)Then someone kindly posted a download of the Omnia.9 presets, so I've also tested
Kinesthesium
Zenith
and even XmasGroove5B (available on the Omnia website). Now back to BaOne's Rustonium.
One thing I've discovered along the way, not having anything to do with presets: My FM tuner in the studio needs to be replaced, or I need to rewire it. I earlier remarked in a previous post that I felt like some of the presets sounded "harsh." But lately, I discovered that if I listen in my car stereo, rather than then in the studio, the harshness isn't there. (And my car stereo, intentionally, is just factory – Kia 2012, if that matters to anyone).
beej6ParticipantThe Juli@ is definitely 192K capable.
beej6ParticipantThank you Jesse! I am not at a point where I am messing with the speed and ranges of multibands… yet 🙂
If there are any presets you would avoid with that fast/high range combination built in, kindly let me know.
beej6ParticipantFor any preset: If I find that a particular setting works well for music, but spoken word seems a bit harsh (a bit too much high end), what adjustments would you suggest I make to the preset?
I usually back off the Final Clip Drive, and turn down treble. -
