I haven’t decided between buying Breakaway Live or Breakaway Broadcast. If one already has a transmitter with stereo generator, limiter and outboard hardware for RDS, what good advantages are still left in using Breakaway Broadcast that aren’t found in using Breakaway Live?
It’s a no brainer, sell the stereo gen, limiter and RDS coder (assuming it’s pro gear). Build a fast PC with a nice soundcard (Marian Trace alpha or Esi Juli@), buy Breakaway Broadcast (and Airomate) and spend the remaining money on a nice holiday..
Win-Win..
hi all,

because of my slow pc, i use breakaway live, now i want to know what kind of stereo coder i can use after it because we go on air for one weekend soon,

normaly we only making music on a webstream. but once we wanted to go at the fm, that’s why i am asking this, i use a basic soundcard, of soundmax in my intel pc.

mvg wouter.

ps: can maybe the next breakaway live version made for fm to? so you don’t need to buy a new pc for using a broadcast version of breakaway?
The next version of Breakaway live WAS made for FM, it was called Breakaway Broadcast..
If you only have a basic soundcard then you will need a hardware stereo encoder for this. There are many different kinds on the market ranging from <$50 for basic ones to >$1000 for top of the range ones. It really depands upon your needs (and your budget) which is best for you.
As you are only using Breakaway Live for your processing, if you want to avoid overdeviation/overshoots you will need a more advanced stereo encoder which has some kind of overdeviation limiting.

Aha, I tried looking on the MPX tool for this link last week but the site was down with a "domain for sale" sign on it..
Glad to get it back, all very useful info..

Instructions on how to calibrate tilt (can be done without an oscilliscope)..

M-audio card mod seems to have been removed from the site since the relaunch, maybe someone still has the mod details, I can’t seem to find it anymore.
I have also a moded m-audio 192 does it need tilt ? and if yes could somenone share the value please ?

Thanks in advance
🙂
The M-audio card needs to be modded to bring it’s square wave distortion down to an acceptable level to be tilt adjustable, it still needs to have the tilt set.
Again, as mentioned many times before, there is no common value for any card as every soundcard (even of the same type) will have a different tilt value, it also varies depending upon what you are connecting it to so unfortunately, the only way to set the tilt is to measure and set it up yourself as per the instructions on the main website.

Have you tried installing Livelink? I also think this may be the solution but not sure if it works in BBP ASIO.
Hey, thanks for the link but I’m after the kit version as not only it’s much cheaper but I don’t require the case or psu. This one:

http://www.broadcastwarehouse.com/bw-broadcast/pll+-1w-exciter/6/product

I have also found this on eBay which looks like an exact copy, has anyone had any experience with it:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PLL-FM-Exciter-Broadcast-Transmitter-LCD-Expansion-/220733642590?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3364c0175e#ht_2854wt_689
Looking at the picture, this IS a BW product being re-sold by an export reseller but wouldn’t stake my life on it.
One of my favorite sellers of RF amps also re-sell the BW exciters Here:

Hope this helps.

UPDATE….

I have looked closer at the picture of this exciter and of the other items he is selling, this definately confirms to me that this seller is a BW reseller, if you look at the little limiter he has, this has the BW logo on it (blurred out but still distinctive) and if you look at the "1WATT PLL FM BROADCAST TRANSMITTER EXCITER MODULE BOARD", the little antenna man making rude gestures can be clearly be seen on this board, this is also a distinctive hallmark or genuine BW gear.

I would order from this seller without hesitation and be sure I’m getting genuine BW gear.

I have not had any experience of any other manufacturer (such as PCS) but their exciters do also look very appealing if I were in the market for unboxed exciters. Unfortunately in my work, I only ever buy certified rackmount gear.

There are several pieces of software which are used for broadcast archive logging which will do this.
Try MP3myMP3 or MCRS (Multi-Channel Recording System). Neither are 100% perfect and have some limitations.
For a more pro, but very reasonably priced solution try Radio Logger Pro from Radiosoft.

The only feature you might find difficult to acheive is the pause on silence, most software can be triggered to record by a detector but I’m not sure if there are any which stop when silence is detected. You could however use a free silence detector called the pira silence detector which can be programed to stop the program and then re-launch it when silence occurs, give that a try..

The L/R and mpx ref levels serve as a final output level from the software into your soundcard, it’s just a variable attenuator applied to the final output after the clipper.
Don’t be alarmed by the red peaks in the output meter, this is intended as a visual aid to show you how much audio is being driven into the clipper (this is user controlled by the final drive slider). The red parts are what is being clipped by the clipper, nothing above 0dB gets past the clipper.
If there are no red peaks here, the clipper is being under-driven and your output will not be very loud.

You need to install edcast, either the standalone version or the winamp DSP plugin version. If you install the standalone version (which is by far the easiest) you then set the L/R output to a pipeline and input that pipeline into edcast. There are other streaming programs too but most seem to use edcast as its free and quite reliable.
Ticking the encoder button on BBP only activates or de-activates the built in DSP stacker, if there is no streaming DSP loaded under encoder plugins, then there is nothing to stream to. The Edcast DSP does work but it can be quite fiddly to set up and get working whereas I’ve normally found the standalone version much less of a headache.

Hope this helps,

@antonlamers, You really need to get those waves bigger in the scope to set the tilt ultra-accurately. There’s alot going on in the tops and bottoms there and you might be able to flatten them out if you can increase the level going into the scope and get a nice clean noise free wave going in.
