That doesn’t make sense at all 🙂. How high was it when it was high?///Leif
As I said elsewhere (didn’t mean to hijack this thread), when I first installed BADJ, I just cranked the buffers all the way to 48/2 and reported perfect sound and video synch. I was tinkering for other reasons, and pressed the TEST button. At 48/2, the jitter reading was 300%. Some experimenting found a sweet spot at 512/2, yielding 10% jitter. However, after a couple of hours playing, I noticed the odd glitch – just a very brief pop, but there nevertheless. I switched back to 48/2 and it was fine for the rest of the night.I haven’t had much time to experiments since, but one thought I had is that the M-Audio 192 card has its own buffer adjustment, which has always been set to the minimum allowable (64). Could there be some over or under-runs being introdced because of this?

KeymasterThanks guys.
Any thoughts on my other post about the jitter being high but the audio was stable, and when I lowered the jitter (by increasing the buffers), the audio popped now and then?Milky
KeymasterWhilst on the subject, what do the U, O and Rst figures relate to, and what is good/bad?
Milky
Keymaster
Fewer buffers = less delay, so if 2 buffers works reliably, that’s excellent.
ASIO always uses two buffers — i.e. when the sound card is reading from buffer 1, the audio app is writing to buffer 2, and vice versa.
Kernel Streaming drivers are not usually reliable with less than 3, but since 2 works for you, consider yourself lucky 🙂.

Now I’m confused. When I first installed BADJ, I just set the buffers to the lowest levels. Everything worked, so I left it that way. I was "tinkering" the other day, and hit the "Test" button in I/O configuration. I noticed that the jitter was running at 300% (!), so I went through the process of trying various buffer combinations. 512 dropped the jitter down to 10%, so I left it set at that. Later that evening, I noticed the odd pop or crackle coming in, so it seems that I get better performance even with 300% jitter.
In a related question, I use an M-Audio audiophile 192 soundcard, and it has it own buffer settings. I have always had it set to the minimum (64). Would there be any advantage in aligning it with whatever buffer count works best in BADJ or is this paramter ignored?Milky

I thought I did 🙂. What are you missing exactly?Best regards,
///Leif
You certainly did, and I am not complaining. However, I am more results driven than price driven, and would rather pay more for a product that is dynamic and kept up to date than one which is seen to be stable and therefore "complete".
My "poor cousin" comment was because I had already admitted a liking for the Zenith preset in the thread where JesseG announced it and, if it really is an improvement on its already great predecessor, then I assumed its roll-out would automatically flow on to all products in which it is currently installed.
Milky
KeymasterSo is BADJ going to become the "poor cousin" just because you designed it for big speakers in "DJ" venues?
I bought it because I live in a situation where most of my audio experience is video tracks on a very big home theatre screen and I needed the program to fine tune my audio enjoyment without introducing visible latency to my A/V experience. I love it, but find the limited number of presets a bit of a "downer".
Maybe I bought the wrong product? Give me something that provides the very low latency for video display, with the supurb audio manipulation you provide.Milky
KeymasterHappy Easter to you too!
Will the new preset(s) be available in Breakaway DJ?Milky
KeymasterExcellent! I’ve used Zenith since I bought BADJ and I love it.
I have to show my ignorance. How does one go about installing a new or replacement preset?Bring it on!
Milky
KeymasterI’ve not had the same problem at all, powerjam. However, I’m running on a desktop with an internal PCI card (M-Audio). I recall that you were having ASIO glitches before you installed BA-DJ, so there must be some sort of timing issue that Breakaway masks most of the time.
Milky
KeymasterI understand the principal of buffers, and the need to keep them as small as possible, but can someone please expain the "Buffer Count" option, and whether that should be smaller or bigger. I have Buffers at 64 and buffer count at 2, and everything seems to be working fine.
Milky
KeymasterPay peanuts and you get monkeys!
The price is EXTREMELY good for the product delivery. I’d love a few more presets, but these will come.I am a software developer, and wouldn’t dream of selling my efforts for less than $100. Keep up the great work, Leif.

KeymasterI don’t know how Ots do their video, but the TV version I use runs at a true 720p, and is capable of 60fps. It’s only since I’ve had OtsTV that I have been collecting music videos. I’m running BADJ on 48/2 with no crackle at all. Is that a bad thing?
I would love a walk through of some of the controls. For instance, on the "Signal Settings" screen, I can set the volume to zero, and it sounds fine, but the bar graphs above it are going full window and there is a red bar going the other way on peaks. I assume this is overdriving, so I backed off the volume to about 8.5 before the red blips went away. I also don’t understand the "EQ Headroom" which is at 0.00. The M-Audio card seems to cope with a pretty hot input without gagging.Milky

KeymasterI know that BADJ was created for DJs, but I bought it because of the very low latency, so there is no perceived lag in video synch in my home studio setup. The only down side is the limited number of presets, which seem to be tilted towards big bins used for large venues.
Whilst my speakers are no slouches, technologically and in size, my room size and acoustic characteristics just do not work with the "heavier" presets like Plutonium. The best I have found to suit the room is "Zenith", but I wonder what else is out there. Is there a possibility that more "gentler" presets will be added in the future? Is it possible to create and add my own presets?I can see the possibility that the "DJ" name will give way to something more "homey", or a home version may evolve with the great low latency, but a different range of presets.
Milky
KeymasterFor what it is worth, I have been bashing OtsTV all day through BADJ running KS in and ASIO out (M-Audio 192 card) and it hasn’t missed a beat, so I don’t believe the problem it Ots. SOunds superb! Thanks Leif.
