These are a couple of responses to your question on a broadcasting group’s forum.
“If you don’t trust who is at the desk or it’s feeding an STL, the Ariane could possibly be useful? It needs to be set as transparent as possible if in front of the main processor. As Paul said in breakaway iyou would need to adjust the attack and release times of the AGC bands or choose a preset that does just that. The best advice I ever had was less is more. Don’t go adding something in chain that already does what you need unless absolutely necessary.”
“to accomplish this in a “chain” of processors, one would need to defeat or slow the wb agc and multiband agc stages of ba one, and that is just not possible. So all you could do is set them both up and “enjoy” listening to them fight eachother.”
“Not with break-away, but I did use an Ariane in front of an Optimod 9100. First, I defeated the wideband in the 9100, but ended up putting it back. Found that combining the bands in an easy riding AGC after the Ariane and before the 6 band limiter just sounded better. It gave the 6 bands in the 9100 a solid base to work from.”
“I feel like you would add something like that because what you’re adding it to lacks it’s abilities. In other words, why duplicate abilities? Unless there’s a lack or a weakness, no need to augment.”
MilkyKeymasterI see that you asked about “expert mode”. That is the realm of the “Sanctum Sanctorum”, where angels fear to tread. I don’t have a magic key, nor can I tell you how to get one. One day, I may get my wings.
MilkyKeymasterNot as a tick box, but I meant is there a preset that suits?
I’ll ask the same question on a professional broadcaster’s forum I belong to, and I’ll pass their responses back to you.- This reply was modified 4 years, 2 months ago by Milky.
MilkyKeymasterGlad you finally made it, mpx!
I don’t have any experience, but I am not a fan of stacking devices where one can do the whole job. Is there not an option in BA1 that will give you all that the Ariane provides?
MilkyKeymasterI have received some reports on the old forum that some have had difficulties in creating a new profile. I am trying to get to the bottom of this, as it seems to be something which upsets the bot detection. Meanwhile, if you PM me on this or the old forum, with at least your preferred username and a vailid email address, I will endeavour to create your profile with a password which you can edit after a successful login.
MilkyKeymasterThis needs an oscilloscope and the ability to modify the card to suit. The “Standard” outout can be viewed on the oscilloscope, but then the circuit needs to be modified, possibly by removing components, changing their values or cutting tracks in the circuitry.
I’ll see if I can find some “tilt correction for dummies” instructions, but it still comes down to trial and error.

MilkyKeymasterInteresting! I’d forgotten about my poor, abandoned iPod.
Thanks for the information. Now, where’s my charger?MilkyKeymasterI get very mixed messages from you, Jovem Pan. I’ve followed your comments on various other forums. In some I see useful advice, and in others, borderline hints at piracy and attempts to encourage users to stray from the fine line of legality.
At this stage, the jury is out on where your allegiances lie. We will welcome your input at any time, provided that it is constructive and that your reasons for providing the input have no ulterior motives. If anything I hear or see contravenes our policies, you will be immediately put on notice.
Meanwile, thank you for your input. I’ll look forward to any feedback from those who choose to try your presets.
MilkyKeymasterGood Point! WordPress uses “plugins” to build a website. Maybe there’s a “report dodgy posts” plugin. I’ll look into that!
MilkyKeymasterWelcome to the new forum, Plauri.
Actually, BA1 is very definitely a 64 bit application (on a 64 bit machine), but leif has noted in the past some complications with hosting a 64 bit VST within the environment, so has restricted them to 32 bits, within the 64 bit host.I’ll see if I can find some of the original comments.
Ah! Found this from Leif. His main concern is that the VST will crash and take out BA1 as well. By running a 32 bit “child” thread, only that thread can crash/
Here’s the original quote:-
“That would actually be quite difficult. I can’t run VSTs directly in the my process because then they could crash and take me with them, so I instead quarantine them in a child process. This is why 64-bit BaOne uses 32-bit VSTs by the way . This incurs delay though, and if they were to be inserted in the middle of the breakaway core, then we’d have to delay only the meters and patch points that precede them, or different parts of the GUI would be out of sync with the audio. It gets quite hairy to manage — I do in the Omnia.9 (and it was NOT easy) but there I am in control of the whole system, there isn’t a way for the user to add things.. adding unknowns in that location is a can of worms I don’t want to go near . What are these level-dependent VST plug-ins? VSTs have always been floating point in/out, meaning essentially infinite dynamic range, so I don’t know why that would be a thing — I certainly haven’t seen any.”- This reply was modified 4 years, 3 months ago by Milky.
MilkyKeymasterHi Mr K.
The new format is taking a little to get used to after using the other one for so long. There may very well be better or more efficient ways to arrange things. As we Admins figure it out, you may see some changes slide into place. We get the WordPress people to convert the old posts, and this is what they came up with, but nothing is set in concrete. What I am hoping we can provide is quicker responses to real questions, as I now have a closer alliance with the “people who know things”.
MilkyKeymasterHi Timmy. Nothing immediately springs to mind. Are you saying that the MP3s are clean outside of BA1? In another forum I Admin on, there are some recent comments about brand new Lenovo i7s inserting glitches in otherwise clean MP3 files, so maybe it's a Windows thing?
MilkyKeymasterI'm sorry, I don't understand the question.
What do you want BA1 to do that it is not doing?MilkyKeymasterNot sure. What happens if you Mute the output?
MilkyKeymasterI finally caught up with Leif and can provide his response:-
AES192 means MPX output over AES at 192 KHz.
BreakawayOne cannot possibly provide AES because BreakawayOne is software. AES3 is a physical digital output format.
However, BreakawayOne provides digital MPX to the sound card. Everything BreakawayOne provides is digital — again, it's software. The sound card may in turn turn it into an analog signal, and then you have an analog MPX signal. If the sound card, rather than converting to analog, outputs a digital AES3 signal, then what you have is indeed AES192. But, BreakawayOne has no idea that that's what it's doing.
