There is some kind of slight audio skip thing going on, like a split second of silence every now and then.
Which stream? I’ve heard it on my "built-in" flash player on my listen page.sneradioMember
One thing is for sure though, it seems to be even more enjoyable & relaxing for long-term listening than anything else so far.
Sounds like it might work well for my station. I’ve been pleased with Reference Classical for the same reason. Clean, good dynamic control and no ear fatigue for long-term listening.sneradioMemberI use plain ol’ uncompressed WAV files. Music from TM Studios (http://www.tmstudios.com). I don’t know if they sell outside of the USA or not.
sneradioMemberIf you have no attenuation you might get some clipping. Try one of the attenuation plugins.

No kidding. I’ve written a couple of helper apps for my automation software. A couple of other people found them useful so I had to write a help file. Takes all the fun out of programming! 😆sneradioMember
Regarding the stream, we are looking to have 2 simultaneous bitrate streams:
1) High bitrate (for a Rock format: MP3 – 128k or 192k?), quality would be welcome but not at the expense of our stream being too "heavy" bandwith-wise.
2) A lower bitrate for our iPhone app (64k in Acc+ or else?)
1) 128k mp3 is fine.
2) 48k AAC+ sounds great. I would also offer a 24k mp3 stream for those who might want to listen using a dialup connection.sneradioMemberquote :One question what sound card would you recommend using on a hosted server?None! First and foremost, a hosted server will probably not even have a sound card. Secondly, it’s not needed. You can use LiveLink to make your playout software connect with breakaway. Somewhere on this forum there are instructions for using Breakaway with both SAM and StationPlaylist in such a situation.
quote :I understand MPX is only relevant for FM?Yes. FM only. Completely irrelevant for anything else.
Breakaway live is fine for streaming. You won’t need the extras Breakaway Broadcast has that are meant specifically for radio broadcast.
sneradioMember
Very clean… easy to listen to for extended periods… nice job!
Thanks! I’m glad you like it.
You can really thank Leif for the clean sound though. 🙂 That, and the fact 99.99% of my audio files are uncompressed WAV files…sneradioMember
Which version of StationPlaylist have you installed on your server? Creator or Studio?
Studio is on the server.
Studio is the playout automation. Creator is the music scheduler.sneradioMember
175$ is little high price for that server.
You might check something like this
http://www.serverloft.com/dedizierte-se … products=0
Doesn’t seem like much bandwidth is included though. Of course bandwidth use would depend on how many listeners a station has…
sneradioMemberZeb,
I believe it’ll work with BBP too.1) StationPlaylist should be fine with short jingles. Go ahead and download the demo and see for yourself. The demo is fully functional for six hours per run for 30 days. Way more than enough time to tinker and fiddle to see if it fits your needs.
2) Most stream hosts I know of will do what you ask regarding the streaming, but you can’t install your own software. I’d suggest contacting Fast-Serv because they are very helpful and might be able to help you out. No harm in asking.
sneradioMemberHi Zeb,
I have exactly the setup you are looking for. I use StationPlaylist for automation and Breakaway Live for processing. Both of which run on a dedicated server that I also use for streaming. StationPlaylist can use "plugins" and comes with a streaming encoder. Leif has a plugin called LiveLink which can be used as plugin to link Breakaway Live with the Encoder. Therefore no sound card is necessary. Voila! Automation, processing and stream hosting all in one box! 🙂 I use a company called Fast-Serv. I have had a very good experience with them. Go to http://www.fastserv.com/web/ and find the contact link to inquire about pricing for dedicated servers. You might be able to get a decent server with 25mps bandwidth for $175/month. The only caveat is that you will have to manage the Shoutcast server(s) yourself though Fast-Serv is very helpful getting you set up.sneradioMember
…no volume knob reaching. Isn’t this what processing is supposed to do? 8)
Yup! And Leif made it easy to achieve. 🙂sneradioMemberBreakaway Live is fine for streaming. I use a slightly tweaked version of the "Reference Classical" preset for my station’s Soft AC format. Stop by my tune-in page for a listen.
sneradioMemberHeck, even as a little hobby internet broadcaster I use only uncompressed WAV files.
