@Milky Thanks so much for the detailed response. I’m not afraid to sound stupid for the sake of learning.

I apparently read some incorrect information at some point and took it in. I appreciate your asking and will refer to this if I need to clarify anything for myself or anybody else.

All I know about multiband AGCs is a few podcasts that use one (Ariane Sequel or Ariane Encore) sound unbelievable. But yeah, for music, perhaps they don’t engage it during those segments after all.

As always, Leif’s insight is invaluable. I need to learn more about AGC sidechain filtering, I suppose. I will have to mull this over more.

I like the natural, warm, round, analog-like sound that Breakaway can make, but I also like a competitive sound that isn’t fatiguing. Big punchy bass with bright and airy highs, without being shrill or distorting.

With the many audio processors available, there are differing features, but so far not all the best features seem to be available in one solution.

    My wishlist would be:

    Multiband AGC/Leveler (Ariane/Chameleon)
Bass enhancer controls with thump, punch, and solar plexus (Omnia 9/11)
    Natural dynamics / Undo (StereoTool/Omnia 9)
    Dynamic/Auto EQ (StereoTool)
    Delossifier (StereoTool)
    DeClipper (StereoTool/Omnia 9 & 11)
    Upgraded Stereo Enhancer (Omnia 9)
    Enhanced composite clipper
Secondary input: sidechain for microphone processing with program mix level adjust (Jünger D*AP4)
Voice processing options with Dynamic EQ, tube emulation
RDS RadioText & Streaming metadata scheduling, with the ability to get data from multiple sources such as playout, DJ consoles/mixers, webpage, simple text, CSV. For example to show the current show name/presenter/DJ and now playing track information

It would be nice to have those features all in one place. Given that hardware boxes like the Omnia 9 and 11 are to all intents and purposes a computer that is running custom software, with an audio I/O interface, realising the features into software for end-user computers is viable.

Thanks, @mpx for alerting me to the Chameleon C6 software. It certainly doesn’t seem worth the $600 asking price for the software, but it’s also got features I wouldn’t necessarily use.

Stereo Tool and Chameleon C6 have plugins. Stereo Tool works within Breakaway One with its VST2x32 plugin. However, the Chameleon seems to be 64-bit VST2 instead. which the current BreakawayOne cannot handle.

Also, I have to toot Stereo Tool’s subharmonic synthesis horn (you mentioned Solar Plexus). True Bass is outstanding since it works by detecting existing harmonics, but I definitely want more options with my sub-bass. Looking forward to trying Solar Plexus at some point, I hope. I also own the bx_SubSynth plugin (which also doesn’t work with BA1) and that’s a fun one too. But the harmonics-detecting ones seem to be the most natural sounding.

But anyway, yeah I think BA1 could do some amazing stuff if it allowed more varieties of plugins and allowed us to put one near the end of the chain (before the clippers) rather than on the input. I mean for a declipper plugin, on the input is really mandatory. But for subharmonics, I like to place mine near the end and let the clippers wrangle the signal.

I like the pricing structure that Stereo Tool is sold on, you pay for the features you require, not the ones you don’t. Perhaps this model could be implemented for Breakaway One.

I agree about True Bass, it does a nice job of reconstructing missing bass frequencies. And it’s great to be able to move some things around in the chain to get the sound you want.

In my experience, there can be stability issues with using some VST plugins within BA1. I have used Stereo Tool as a VST within it for the DeClipper, but it was quite resource hungry and there were a few bugs and glitches, especially when making adjustments, it would not recall a preset properly upon restart and would crash randomly so I shelved the idea. Better to have purpose-built software with the features built in than trying to patch things into it.

    hi,
i sow some request about adaptation for ARM architecture, what endpoints hardware could be suitable for MPX without requiring external sound card? as if so, lets image how it could be easy adapt even direct integrations inside transmitters… licensing could be head each for Creators, as most such things for security reasons work in secured environments. In digital world good quality encoder/decoder question securely transmitting to endpoints and managing is important too.
By the way, how many years software support end user is expecting? in nowadays Microsoft/ubuntu LTS ~10 years, Android/Apple products in most way probably ~5 years. So marketing and pricing is another question. So new version probably could be with upgrade price. You Know soon will be Christmas, so let creator’s surprise us!
