I have been asked to compile a list of wishes and bug reports to forward on to the developers.

No promises on a time-line yet, but Leif is gathering details with a view to releasing a new version in the future.

Please just reply to this thread with Breakaway Audio Enhancer only wishes, with as much detail as possible and I will make it my business to distil your responses down to a workable list and forward it on.

What kind of update are we talking about here? Full-on framework update to the NF code or whatever it’s called? If so, that takes care of the DPI and scaling aspect. Otherwise, it needs a built-in scaling slider from 1x to 4x (8K desktop resolution is coming and will hit us before we know it).

Can we get support for plugins? (particularly Winamp DSPs on input — for pre-leveling, subharmonics, declipping, etc).

Outputs to more than one device? I see folks wanting to swap between headphones and speakers and getting frustrated about having to configure it each time.

Update the pipeline to a newer version that supports greater than 16-bit depth?

Again, I haven’t been using this software as much as I used to, so I’ll have to add more as they come to me.

Agree on the 24bit support and having an output selector (that can seamlessly switch output without having to restart the audio subsystem) Many apps crash if audio device is virtually unplugged and replugged, like USB behavior)

Better WDM performance. Some games like CS:GO stutter)

    ♥♥♥
    Maybe better layout for app.

Look here for layout(its a free app i used t replace Breakaway as its free and has many great audio features/EQ

Sorry, I didn’t see this thread, and I have a small bug to mention.

Regarding this old problem I had: https://ceaforum.net/?topic=new-version&paged=2#post-16316

I noticed that BAE doesn’t find Breakaway Pipeline (Virtual Audio Cable) when it isn’t configured as WaveRT. I’ve got mine set to WavePCI and BAE tells me that I don’t have the Breakaway Pipeline installed, which is wrong, it’s simply not configured as it wants to. Maybe make it aware of WavePCI mode (and maybe WaveCyclic too).

Oh! If I recall correctly, some people with Lenovo laptops were having problems with installing BAE. Memory says it had something to do with the (Dolby) drivers not having one of the APIs necessary to configure BAE the first time, and thus one could not reconfigure it to use the correct one.

When setting up BAE 1.4X, what API does it default to? KS, MME, WDM, DirectSound, WASAPI, Wave, etc. And which ones does it support? I can’t test right now. But some systems don’t support a key one that BAE wants to use. Sorry I can’t be more specific.

Oh, could we get ASIO output in the new version?

I installed the new BAE v1.44, and I noticed that you can indeed enable up to 192kHz/32bit!!! Idk if it was available in the previous version of BAE or not, but with v1.44, there is an app called “Breakaway Pipeline Control Panel”.

On my system, the Breakaway Pipeline Control Panel allows a range of sample rates between 5kHz – 192kHz, and a range of bit depths between 8 and 32 BPS. You set the ranges you’d like to see in that control panel, and then those ranges appear in the Windows Sound Options Control Panel.

Don’t forget to hit the “SET” button in the Breakaway Pipeline Control Panel after making changes and before opening the Winows Audio Properties. Of course it’s also probably a good idea to change everything and then restart the Windows Audio Service BEFORE you open the main BAE app.

The settings in the pipeline only restrict/allow the minimum/maximum range that it will allow through to the input of BAE.
Typically, it should be set to 44100 – 48000 because the BAE config program only allows for those two frequencies in the “Rate” drop-down box.

    Hi!
That’s good news! Thanks for the excellent improvements!

If I understand correctly, selecting higher sample rates and bit depths in the pipeline than BAE can handle is useless?

    Regarding Settings, Wizard and buffers:

Although I have a lot of experience with my setup, I still use the pre-defined buffer settings as a reference. To select each of them I have to go through the entire Wizard procedure.
Maybe a profile selector with these five settings could be implemented into the Expert window to easily choose between them?
Alternatively/additionally it would help a lot if it would not return to the main app after finishing the Wizard, but return to the Settings window instead. I always check for jitter and see the results before using it.

Speaking of buffers, I have learned that a multiple of 441 or 480 is optimal.
In my case fewer but larger buffers minimize jitter while keeping latency down. Therefore I use 882 and 960 respectively.
Would it make sense to wish for triple values (1323 and 1440), or does say 1536 work as well?

    Regards,
    Wilhelm

There is an article at this link which discusses BAE setup https://ceaforum.net/?topic=fine-tuning-breakaway-audio-enhancer-all-about-interfaces-buffers-and-rates

Basically, you need to aim for the smallest buffers, so providing for anything larger than a multiple of the sample rate would be useless.

Jitter is only an issue if it produces audible artefacts. If you can’t hear it, it isn’t a problem.

My friend who uses BAE all the time’s suggestion was to allow multiple (3 or so) “custom presets”

For Example, Setting 1 is: Plutonium, Speed 30%, Power 50%, Bass shape 10%, Bass Boost 100%
Setting 2 is another set of settings. Etc…

Hi Everyone, already some great suggestions, so here are others that hopefully could be considered (some are repeated as I would like to cast my vote, sort of speak):

*A batch audio processing tool or a winamp dsp plugin like (as MrKlorox mentioned), to re-encode multiple mp3 or FLAC files for car or portable device usage. Curretly I use dbpoweramp and apply ReplayGain EBU R128 for my car playlists, but the results are nowhere near as good as they sound with BA on my PC. I believe you could do this with winamp + volume logic, Leif’s previous app, but again not no even close to how good BA sounds. Would gladly pay for this even if it was a separate program purchase!.

*A preset tailored for voice such as podcasts and audiobook listening.

*A neutral preset with a flat eq that would only normalize and prevent clipping, without changing
    the source sound.

    *A declipper option.

*An android system wide version (like Eqfy or Poweramp equalizer) or plugin for music players such as Poweramp, Jetaudio, USB Audio Player PRO or neutron player.

*Shortcuts to switch between favorite presets.

*I don’t have one, but maybe multi-channel processing option could be added for PC home theater setups.

*I don’t have or use Mac/apple products but this also could be a good option to expand BA’s customer base as well as a Linux version.

*Not sure if there is a way around it or I’m missing something, but when using a USB decoder and headphone amp, BA gets bypassed (I guess this is the idea of the USB decoder, bypassing the sound of the motherboard, but I would like to have an option so BA could also process that output as well.

*Agree on the scaling option for 4K and future 8K monitors. I currently use a 55 inch 4K TV as monitor and the menus are still WAY too small.

Nice to hear BA development is still going! Love the software.

There is a neutral preset in ‘Reference Settings’. It just provides a constant output level, with very little colouration of the source material.

When using your USB device, you probably need to change the input of BAE to pipeline 1,and the output as the USB device.

    Thanks Milky, will try those.

    More suggestions:
*Improve or make clearer the equalizers preset descriptions for the average/non-technical users. Helix, French Kiss, Perfect Blend, Eruption, could be more descriptive on how they are changing the sound. Probably a small EQ graph next to each preset description could be helpful to give a visual idea of how they are modeling the sound.

*Also as MrKlorox already mentioned, customs presets with with graphic eq options (hopefully 7 bands or more).

*More Windows toolbar layout options, I like the meter setting for eye-candy and handy volume, bypass controls. But I would prefer a layout with larger space for the eq bars and the volume, bypass controls moved to the side. Both the bypass and volume are a little difficult to adjust on 4K.

*More skin color options, and some different full screen layouts.

If possible can we have the ability to load presets not only for the main window sound settings (as said by MrKlorox before me) but also for the input output devices settings perhaps via configurable hotkeys if possible?

I sometimes would like to have it automatically or manually switch to another output device when one of my two is “unplugged” on my laptop. If set automatically maybe a priority check list sort of like the boot priority list where #1 choice is first (default audio device), #2 (secondary audio device), #3 (third audio device) and so forth?

As it stands I have to manually enter the configuration with right click -> settings, then change the output to my other device (a bluetooth connection that only appears when bluetooth is on and connected) and then set my correct and different sample rate and buffers.
