Comparing latest BreakawayFM with Stereotool software

I'd have to say ST vs Breakaway has to come back to personal choice. Breakaway has a lot less buttons and knobs to screw things up royally. ST has gone a bit to far for me, it's very fatiguing. Then you need to think about the environment you are deploying these software processors in. If you run LIVE talent the game is over with both of them…. ST being the one with the longest latency. Yes I know you can get the latency down in Breakaway by using the lite version. But it's not quite there either. I've sung the praises of Breakaway for many a year and yes I'm a legit customer. But the day I wanted to go live on my internet stations that's it this discussion is a mute point. Both would be tossed out.

I continue to use both processors, and I agree that each has its place.  Breakaway is incredibly clean and easy to use, and its latency can be brought to a point where I can easily put it anywhere but where a live DJ might use it in his/her headphones.  Today, that isn't much of a problem, since the vast majority of stations in my area use some form of digital transport between studio and transmitter.  For me, you could have several minutes of latency and I'd have no reason to care.

Stereo Tool allows for the "tinkering" that Leif chose not to allow in Breakaway.  For those with an understanding of how these things work, ST might be their choice.  The program has also progressed beyond where Leif locked his down, so there are features that have continued to develop.  That BBP still compares as favorably as it does is, I think, a testament to the quality of Leif's work.

Breakaway is MUCH better as a standalone product that Stereo Tool.  However, I've found the best solution is to run Stereo Tool as a DSP plugin through Breakaway.  I let Stereo Tool handle the Stereo, Declipping, Natural Dynamics and Base Boost.  This is how I've achieved the loudest, cleanest sound.
