There is also a good reason to do so in contrast to the Breakaway DJ mixer. If you scale the stereo content, run it through a stereo processor, then mixed in mono after you lose a lot of energy generated by zeroing the CEA, which creates inconsistencies volume. This also happens when you listen to FM stereo to mono. Mixture of mono before the processor can avoid this problem and maintain consistency.

I read that ten times trying to make sense of it and it’s relevance to Breakaway DJ.

Can someone explain what is the difference between BDJ 0.09.04 alpha & 0.90.5 alpha assuming there is no RC or change log mentioned that I can see. 0.90.5 alpha is shown as the latest download in the Store..

Startup problems with BADJ.
My son bought a copy of Breakaway DJ and installed it on his laptop, a near new HP i5, Widows 7 Pro box. Whenever he restarts the PC (Windows updates, antivirus etc), BADJ launches to. However, the sound is scratchy and very distorted. If he closes and re-opens BADJ, everything sounds great and it is using the settings he has made. It’s no big deal haveing to shut down and re-start BADJ, but he wonders if there is some way Breakaway could overcome this distortion on startup?

Definitely some kind of buffer under-run being caused by something starting up along side Breakaway, probably a device driver getting going. Breakaway & the pipeline should correct for it quickly but the pipeline is unfortunately nowhere near as robust as Breakaway itself. That all changes in the new version of Breakaway which features an updated pipeline that has multi-phasic adaptive resampling built into it, courtacy of Leif. (Virtual Audio Cable benefits from this too, since it’s one in the same basically)

I guess the only thing I can think of is to try toggling the "Real Time Priority" so that it’s one or the other and see if that helps the problem go away without causing any other issues. If you don’t *need* real time priority to prevent glitching, then I personally don’t recommend using it, simply because Windows (even 7 still) doesn’t handle that as smoothly as it could in *some* cases.

How’s the i5 mobile? 🙂

Thanks Jesse. I’ll check his settings next time he swings by this way.

The HP is a nice beast. He chose that over others mainly because of the non-reflective large screen and the separate numeric keyboard so he can choose lighting sequences easier. The biggest downfall is the on-board sound which is absolutely abysmal. Even with BADJ, it just scrapes over the line. Of course, he has an external USB Denon 4500 (I think), but, for quick auditioning or editing, it’s a pain to have to hook up the Denon each time.

I’m home, but don’t know the answer you seek. If you’ve followed the forum, you would know that Leif is on a mission which has kept him away from here, and I’m not sure anyone else knows the answer. I bought BADJ almost as soon as it was made available, and seem to recall Leif released a couple of iterations in short succession – partly for bug fixes and partly in response to users’ suggestions.

If you read through this very thread, you will get the entire history of this product, from when Leif first announced he was working on it, to its first release, then some discussion on improvements, the first release for sale, and a subsequent release with improvements. I believe the answer you seek is in the first 4 pages.

You want to email Leif about this?

Yeah, why not take a couple of beers over and have a personal chat?
He’s lying low for a VERY good reason. Leave him to it.

I’ll put this as pleasantly as I can. READ THE FIRST FOUR PAGES OF THIS THREAD AND YOUR ANSWER WILL BE REVEALED.

Milky if you know then say so stop playing Fan boy games. (That would be helpful)
I looked and did not find what I was looking for hence the question.

If you don’t know stop the useless posts 🙄 🙄

Leif does say over a bunch of posts up to #5978 what he is adding, including in #5978 itself which is where .05 was linked originally.

Just wondering… *why* you want to know? Is there a problem that was introduced or fixed in either version? That seems more important information than us telling you to search/read, and you suggesting you have and didn’t find information I did in 3 minutes.

It’s a simple question why the inquisition? Properly documenting the releases would solve much of the issues instead of railing on people who ask a simple question.

If you don’t know the answer then just say noting but I assumed there would be a minimum of professionalism supporting the releases not just random statements on what happened.

But your right Jesse in the statement just search the Forums..it’s a useless post.

In simple terms the version I have and thought was current is not the same version as posted on the purchase screen.

This I thought was a reasonable request ……. Or should I just ask how does one download the latest version shown in the Purchase area if I have already purchased the program.. UGH!

I usually keep a copy of which version I download in case there are issues…

So Okay forget the first question where is the location to download the latest version. It was not shown in the latest software forum as well..

So if you found the answer to my question in 3 minutes great answer my question or at least attach the post if not .. well you know.

I’d be glad to apologize if wrong…
New version is up!

http://www.claessonedwards.com/beta/bre … _alpha.exe

New features: Selectable Test tone or Pink Noise generation
Audio Realtime Priority is back, but off by default

TNGDJ, please try the new version, turn on Test tone generator, and listen carefully to the sound *while loading a large playlist in otsav*.

If it’s consistently clean, it means Breakaway DJ’s audio engine has no problems, but the OTS ASIO output does, then I’d have to blame OTS, and there’s really nothing I can do other than offering a larger asio buffer option.

On the other hand, if you hear the glitches even with the test tones, then it could be breakaway dj’s audio engine that doesn’t get enough cpu power, and then turning Audio Realtime Priority on MAY help.

Please let me know.

///Leif
This is a quote from page 4 of this thread in which Leif announces 90.05 AND the changes incorporated in it. If you think about it, you only had to read Leif’s posts, because they would be the only ones which would mention new releases or contain a link to it.

For the record, I was not trying to be obtuse, nor be "Fan Boy", but the search facility it there for a reason, there is ONLY one thread related to BADJ, and, to me, the answer is/was obvious. We are happy to answer questions which haven’t been covered anywhere before (if we know the answer), but a little light reading never hurts anyone.
Like you, I am a BADJ user, and I would like to see some changes to it, but, as has been announced and mentioned on numerous posts, Leif is busy rolling out an improved platform, so we all must mark time until that task is complete.
