    Ok Leif, I just thought I would let you know that I just posted about your program in the Bose forum for DJ’s that use the Bose L-1 product. My system is sounding and working great. I’m using real priority and my buffers are set pretty high. But everything seems to be working great. So I wanted to share with my other brothers and sisters a quality product like yours. Thanks again for making this. 😀

    [quote author=”Leif”]Basically yes, although it has evolved a bit since AtomixMP3 🙂.

    Breakaway DJ is an audio processor for DJs, low latency, with an ASIO driver to directly interface with DJ software, such as VirtualDJ, Traktor, or whatever you like. Two separate cores so that you can process either Deck A/Deck B separately, or Master/Cue separately, for the ridiculously low price of $99 🙂.

    I’m aiming for it to be cpu-efficient enough to run together with DJ software even on a standard netbook (Atom CPU).

    It’s not done yet (I started a week ago) but it’s running now, the ASIO driver is working — it should be downhill coasting from here. (Yea right, like that ever happens…)

    Virtual DJ Basic is only $99. and DJ’s are cheap your Breakaway for DJ’s processor may go better at around $50.00.

    Just saying..

    A Cheap DJ (LOL)

    Pay peanuts and you get monkeys!
    The price is EXTREMELY good for the product delivery. I’d love a few more presets, but these will come.

    I am a software developer, and wouldn’t dream of selling my efforts for less than $100. Keep up the great work, Leif.

    Agreed Leif this is a great product and worth the money. Not all DJ’s are cheap many understand quality does come at a price.

    I’d say add mic processing and double the price 😉

    I have a preset coming, called "Motor City", that I’m fairly sure of (already) will blow Leif’s socks off once he gets back online to hear it. (he’s in the middle of moving, and probably doesn’t have internets at home yet, so he’s hunched at a cafe somewhere the last week, i’m totally guessing)

    And hopefully it blows some of your minds too… At least from what I’ve heard from it so far, compared to any of the other "loud" presets, it has the most of the original transient impact but at the same time is possibly only beat on spectral consistency by New York… and maybe Plutonium/Rusticity/Rustonium somewhere in the same ballpark but maybe a few runs behind. But I’m not going to say that without a doubt yet, but yeah…

    6 months in development so far, at any rate, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it, so… I’m hoping to get it into the Breakaways within the next 1-3 releases… Leif willing. 8)

    I understand the principal of buffers, and the need to keep them as small as possible, but can someone please expain the "Buffer Count" option, and whether that should be smaller or bigger. I have Buffers at 64 and buffer count at 2, and everything seems to be working fine.

    Fewer buffers = less delay, so if 2 buffers works reliably, that’s excellent.

    ASIO always uses two buffers — i.e. when the sound card is reading from buffer 1, the audio app is writing to buffer 2, and vice versa.

    Kernel Streaming drivers are not usually reliable with less than 3, but since 2 works for you, consider yourself lucky 🙂.

    For me, this product would be worth it if only for a stereo/mono switch. I’m a Bose L1 user and will often use just one speaker for the cocktail hour or sometimes even the gig itself if it’s a small room. I’ve had to ditch my Gigaport because of this and run VDJ in mono separated mode.

    If it’s a dangerous feature, maybe it can be a hidden one. 🙂

    I’m looking forward to see some of the new settings. Possibly the one this gentleman from above is talking about. There was a review of your product on the Bose board. I was very happy to see who did it and how it came out. It is my desire when I see a great product like this that can help my fellow DJ’s have better sound to always shoot for the best. I will post the review but not the name. I will say that on the Bose end he is probably the top of the game. I also did let him know the GUI could be reduced or hidden. And some of the Bose items mentioned (T-1) is an expensive device for the Bose system.

    Review:

    Other than needing help figuring out how to assign GigaPortAG channels to BreakAwayDJ channels, installation was straightforward.

    Due to Win7 64bit admin/user nuances when a program is allowed to install into the Program Files (x86) folder, I chose to install it in its own C:BreakAwayDJ folder just to bypass any remote possibility of issues.

    Pros:
    The amount of cpu resources this uses is negligible on a strongly horse powered computer processor making it non-invasive for video applications;

    The gui (graphical user interface) is intuitive although a bit techie if one is unfamiliar with such terminologies;

    When fired up in Virtual DJ, the sound was immediately louder and stronger. When its gain was turned down to match that of the regular program, then the various settings were able to be tested for actual impact over if it wasn’t in play.

    The impact on the L1 Compacts was so-so. Any major settings or adjustments adulterated the Compact’s quality while minor changes resulted in some equally minor improvement.

    The impact on the L1 Classic was considerably more effective. The sound of the lower bitrate mp3 files were significantly improved which, prior to this software program, required mixer eq tweaking.

    With high bite rate mp3 files and video audio, there was a subtle richer, fuller, rounded sound. I compared using the program’s eq setting for lower end freq’s versus cranking up my mixer’s lo end eq setting. Dramatic difference on B1 impact.

    There was NO audio/video latency syncing issues. None.

    The B1s at high volume signal input via the mixer along with +80% – +90% gain on the bass eq knob, caused the B1s to distort, rattle, and vibrate. When applying approximately the same frequency gain via the software eq settings, the bass was solidly there but did not cause half the same level of B1 issues the mixer eq caused. Yes, the B1s sounded "bigger" via the software.

    When using presets 57 (at high volume) or 58 (at high volume), there has been a greater tendency for mic feedback on my system. Feedback tendencies were reduced slightly using the software. I don’t know why or how, it just was reduced perceptibly.

    Cons:
    The docked interface is way too big. By that I mean there’s only a few really important things to have or need at hand. What is being presented visually is more for glitz than need. I would call it clunky fluff.

    I will mention the same or perhaps better levels of tweaking, controlling, and broadening sound can be achieved using the Tone Match Engine. Yet, as a mobile DJ who loves everything rack mountable, organized, neat, and efficient, I don’t use the wired remotes either for the same reasons. Aside: How neat would it be to have the wired remote and the T1 both available in a 1U 19" rack mountable enclosure.

    While I am not jump up and down "blown away" by the program, it is a 1000% better means to tweak your audio over the likes of other outboard gear such as the Kosmos, BBE, DriveRack, 30 band EQs and such. At $99.00 compared to the costs of the aforementioned outboard devices, it’s truly a bargain with excellent bang for the buck, while taking up no additional rack space and doesn’t add an ounce more to the equipment weight.

    What I’d Like To See:
    Multiple settings savings selection buttons;
    Smaller, more compact gui to include the bypass without having to go to another screen;
    the eq GUI would be much more effective if it looked and operated like a standard everyday garden variety type eq (sliders up and down versus its current left and right bubble.

    I like it. I’m keeping it and am looking forward to see what it does in a large venue.

    I hope this helps and would love to read the experiences of others too.
