This may or may not be related, but when I use an M-Audio Fastrack Pro USB soundcard with my laptop, I will have serious sound issues if I don’t use the EXACT same USB port that I originally installed it on. This might offer an explanation as to why the sound is perfect some days but not others, if not, I guess I’ve only wasted a minute or two of your time.
Good luck with your trouble shooting.

What you could try, while it’s plugged in, is going to your device manager, right click on the device, and "Update Drivers…" using the automaticaly find option (not the internet), and it’ll make sure that all of the components of the driver are loaded from the newest version in your driver cache.
Sometimes installing a device on USB and then moving to another device it won’t use all of the driver’s components for some reason, on some windows machines. I have an XP system that does it right here.
January 17, 2010 at 1:00 am #9561powerjamMemberLeif, quick question, Is it possible to program in a fade in function just for when audio is first received? It seems the level is very high for a split second if you enable or start your audio, then BDJ brings it to the proper level. Would that be possible to do or is this by design supposed to do that?
January 17, 2010 at 3:37 am #9562LeifKeymasterYes. The other Breakaway products already have it, but I forgot to add it to Breakaway DJ. Will do it in a future release.

January 17, 2010 at 5:05 am #9563powerjamMemberYou are just too cool! Now can you work out a deal with Ots Corp to use your product integrated with OtsAV? It is so much more powerful and useful compared to the built in Dynamics Processor in OtsAV! 🙂
January 17, 2010 at 6:11 pm #9564powerjamMemberThere is a discussion about Multi-band processing going on in the OtsAV forum and I asked if BDJ could replace a DBX driverack processor and it was mentioned that the DBX processes the final sound, BDJ only the sound from the computer. Could BDJ be set up to process the microphone(s)/line input(s) on a sound card also so that it processes the entire sound and run the output directly to the amp(s)? Thanks again, Leif.
January 17, 2010 at 11:42 pm #9565LeifKeymasterYes! Breakaway Live does that, and will do the job with very low latency — but it really needs a dedicated machine. However, for more permanent installations it’s a great alternative to other hardware boxes.

January 17, 2010 at 11:45 pm #9566JesseGMemberIt could, but it’s best setup on its own audio card, probably on its own computer, since you’ll wanna use ASIO for ~no delay, and making sure that it’s glitch free. Not to mention it should have its own screen at the FOH position so FOH engineer can tweak it if needed, or at least monitor it. Not to mention Breakaway RTA & a reference RTA mic is pretty sweet even if you’re using Breakaway’s multiband processing as well to make it set & forget. 😉
January 18, 2010 at 12:05 am #9567LeifKeymasterIndeed, and Breakaway DJ comes with PEQ so that you can calibrate the speaker system from there, even if the mic won’t be calibrated. How often does a DJ really use the mic? 🙂

January 19, 2010 at 9:17 pm #9568MilkyKeymasterI know that BADJ was created for DJs, but I bought it because of the very low latency, so there is no perceived lag in video synch in my home studio setup. The only down side is the limited number of presets, which seem to be tilted towards big bins used for large venues.
Whilst my speakers are no slouches, technologically and in size, my room size and acoustic characteristics just do not work with the "heavier" presets like Plutonium. The best I have found to suit the room is "Zenith", but I wonder what else is out there. Is there a possibility that more "gentler" presets will be added in the future? Is it possible to create and add my own presets?I can see the possibility that the "DJ" name will give way to something more "homey", or a home version may evolve with the great low latency, but a different range of presets.
January 19, 2010 at 10:19 pm #9569powerjamMemberFor my headphone use, I really like the Zenith setting also – using ATH-m50 cans. I did adjust the bass boost up and the bass shape down though.
January 21, 2010 at 5:29 am #9570LeifKeymasterHm.. I watch movies all the time with Breakaway Personal, playing videos in any media player with audio going through the pipeline, and latency has never been an issue for me.
What buffer settings are you using? For me, 441/3 on input and 480/3 on output is acceptable for movies.

January 21, 2010 at 9:14 am #9571MilkyKeymasterI don’t know how Ots do their video, but the TV version I use runs at a true 720p, and is capable of 60fps. It’s only since I’ve had OtsTV that I have been collecting music videos. I’m running BADJ on 48/2 with no crackle at all. Is that a bad thing?
I would love a walk through of some of the controls. For instance, on the "Signal Settings" screen, I can set the volume to zero, and it sounds fine, but the bar graphs above it are going full window and there is a red bar going the other way on peaks. I assume this is overdriving, so I backed off the volume to about 8.5 before the red blips went away. I also don’t understand the "EQ Headroom" which is at 0.00. The M-Audio card seems to cpe with a pretty hot input without gagging.January 21, 2010 at 9:20 am #9572MilkyKeymasterI don’t know how Ots do their video, but the TV version I use runs at a true 720p, and is capable of 60fps. The audio comes out of the Breakaway core at 0.0dB, so unless the main volume is below 0, any little eq boost will cause this overload.
The EQ Headroom is a volume control just like the main volume control, but it’s not accessible from the main window. Thus, by turning Volume up all the way, and then turning EQ Headroom down to where you see no limiting (or very little), you can just leave that control where it is, and then adjust volume freely without having to worry about overload!
