I was an early beta tester of VolumeLogic and a rabid supporter of these guys. Been waiting for years, checking periodically in hopes of a new Mac product. I’ve been able to get very similar results to VL in iTunes and Pandora on OS X Lion with the following setup.

    Have $32 and 10-minutes? Here’s what I did.

    1) Download Hijack Pro (free trial, license cost $32)

    http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/

    2) Add Pandora as a stream source using the lower left "+" button and setting audio source application to Pandora ONE software.

    3) Download LoudMax AU (not VST) plugin:

    http://loudmax.blogspot.com/2011/02/loudmax-plugin-v111-released.html

Make sure in the Pandora settings you are set Music Streaming Quality to High.

Drop the LoudMax.component (not mono) on your Mac here:
    Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components

    4) In Audio Hijack, click on Pandora on left and select the Effects tab at the top.

    5) Click on upper left box that says "Click here to insert effect" and select 4FX Effect: 10-band EQ from the pop-up menu.

Important: there are two twist knobs on the 10-Band EQ, set the IN GAIN to 2PM (see picture).

Click Editor and set the EQ parameters with your mouse to approx.

    31Hz -8 db
    63Hz -5 db
    125Hz -2 db
    500Hz -4 db
    1KHz -6 db
    2KHz -4 db
    4Khz -2 db
    8Khz 0 db
    16Khz -3 db

    6) Click on the next box on the right and select AudioUnit Effect -> Thomas Mundt -> LoudMax from the pop-up menu.

Set the Thresh slider to -16.0 and the Output slider to -1.0

Some people prefer to just hit the by-pass on the EQ and let the LoudMax plug-in do all the work. I’m still very much looking forward to an upcoming OS X product! For now, enjoy this workaround.

That’s going into the realm of using an EQ to correct for the response of the speakers and the room. And it can be VERY beneficial when done properly and accurately. 8) But of course, it’s different for every pair of speakers in any given room.

Very offtopic but luckily there’s a very high quality solution for this! (They are manufacturing these near my apartment =))

Mac enthousiast need to know that Windows has about 90% of the market.
    http://thenextweb.com/microsoft/2012/09 … ows-vista/

It is not profitable to put in many development hours to make a Mac version for only 10% of the market. It’s that simple!

I know that OSX is a better os than windows, but Mac’s are just overpriced. Thats why the most people don’t buy them.

That my 2 cents of it.

Happy new year for all windows and osx users.

I’m not a mac user, I have never convinced myself to make the switch yet, but found this app that should help run BA on a mac (according to the developer), here is the link:

    http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibilit … pp_id=9570

If anyones tries it, please share your results, believe it or not, BA is one of the reasons (along many others) of why I haven’t switched to mac.

I don’t think breakaway will run smoothly in an emulator. If it runs….

Other than the copy protection, the big thing preventing this would be Pipeline not properly working with Crossover. It might work though. Someone with OSX could try it and let us know.

How one would get audio from OSX *into* the Pipeline is a whole other matter that I’m not sure could be solved with Crossover or not.

As far as compatibility layers, and if things work or not in them, some of them are quite complete, like WINE. 😉

I tried Codeweavers about a year ago and could not get BAE to work. I run BAE in Windows 7 with Parallels and it works fine however you have to run your player in Windows also. I have tried just about everything to direct the audio from OSX Lion to BAE running in Parallels Windows 7 but have not had any success. Seems to me there should be a way. The closest I came was using a Turtle Beach USB Sound Dongle mounted in Windows and running the audio from OSX to the Mic Input of the USB Dongle. This does run the Audio through BAE but unfortunately the Mic Audio also loops to the output of the Turtle Beach causing an echo effect.

Unfortunately it seems like all hope for ANY kind of OSX version (beta or otherwise) is well and dead. It seems like the Breakaway Audio program itself is dead as Leif's last forum activity was October 10, 2013, 04:15:48 AM, over a year ago now.

To this day still use VolumeLogic with 10.9 via Audio Hijack Pro (the only way it works now), but audio technology has come a long way since VL was first introduced over 10+ years ago (and OSX for that matter).

    *sigh* Oh well…..
