Camclone,
quote :perfect clip restoration is conceptually impossible (once information is lost it cannot be retrieved).I wasn’t joking. 🙂

Thanks for the reply.
quote :The Bass-EFX and Impact/Clunk presets do not increase average levels! They do not increase the energy of the audio.Did you mean they DO or DO NOT increase the energy of the audio? I would have guesssed that the Bass-EFX would increase the energy. Not sure whether this is a typo or my assumption is wrong.

March 11, 2009 at 6:23 pm #6141LeifKeymasterI meant that they do not. That is, they don’t.
They redistribute the energy that is there, but they do not add or subtract energy.
It’s pretty easy to verify. Play a song with Winamp (without audio processing) and turn on BASS-EFX. I’ll bet you won’t hear any difference at all. If they increased energy, you’d hear it very clearly even without processing. The plug-ins are NOT locked to Breakaway — they runs just fine in Winamp, it’s just that it doesn’t do much good unless you follow it with an FM processor.

Now I’m back to confused mode. 😕 If they don’t add level or energy to audio then why did adding them cause the input to overload? As adding the 6db attenuator solved the problem I would have thought that somewhere in that combination of plugins gain was added as well to cause the overload .. which the attenuation solved.Scott
March 12, 2009 at 11:36 am #6143LeifKeymasterIt normally wouldn’t. However, if the input has been peak limited or clipped, the energy of the audio will be artificially high, and the peak level artificially low. Running it through something like Bass-EFX will redistribute the energy and build the peaks back up. Unfortunately, this alone does not remove the distortion or other artifacts that the previous clipping (during CD mastering) caused.

Tell me what you think of these settings?. I’m really starting to like this sound.
.April 1, 2009 at 7:19 pm #6145JesseGMemberThat’s a joke, right?
Tell me what you think of these settings?
If you could convince Leif to write an extra +6db Final Drive DSP for it then I think you’d have it smoking! 🙂
That might fill those small empty spaces in the output graph. 🙂

April 2, 2009 at 10:42 am #6148LeifKeymasterWhoa, those are some awesome settings, Celar! I wish I had thought of that 😉.
How fortunate that the controls all had exactly the right range to create this preset.. Imagine, if one of the controls had maxed out at 49, this preset would not have been possible!
It just goes to show that Breakaway really allows great flexibility in adjusting the sound, from Awesome to Horrendous, despite the limited number of parameters 😀.
Best,

Which is especially useful to me, working here at Horrendous 101.9.. . 😀April 2, 2009 at 9:28 pm #6150LeifKeymasterLOL, dude, you’re not seriously running those settings on the air are you?
Oh wait.. I just noticed the date. 😀 😀
