The latest, Leif; 90.82, and it’s working fine at this time.
September 9, 2009 at 10:40 pm #7875Joop KrauthausenMemberHello , just an update about the 0.90.80 –
Its up and running for some weeks now.. and today i noticed an error.
A minor one.. the overall red colour you see when the signal clips was present (red blinking bars) even when the levels were just fine.the audio was ok.. no glitches there.. everything else was working fine.
a quick switch to the i/o settings and back solved it.no resets.. no changes of parameters.
thought you would like to know.
greets ,
Joop
September 10, 2009 at 8:56 am #7876LeifKeymasterWow that’s weird!
Never ever heard of that. That seems really strange.
If it happens again, please look at the input oscilloscope, see if you see anything strange.
Best,

Same happened to me. Bars flash red and the audio "skips" like a scratched CD… even restarting the PC didn’t help.
Changed from Windows XP SP1 to W2K SP4 and lowered from Optimize CPU to Low Latency and the CPU usage decreased. I changed from XP SP1 to W2K last night and so far didn’t get any report of error.
Joop: check with task manager the CPU usage when this happens. Mine went from 0/44 to 70/44 when this happened.

September 12, 2009 at 7:29 pm #7878Joop KrauthausenMemberHey,
I had the problem again today.. the red blinking bars.
And while it happened , i looked at the processor/memory load , memory remained constant at 10%.
The processor load increased from 27 to 59 %.
The input oscilloscope did not give any sign of clipping. The output oscilloscope did not clip.
The clip warning (is it still in the settings/calibration area?) did not blink.
The audio that came out of BBP was perfect. No problem.
I rerouted the studio&STL to another processor and got BBP offline , did not switch it of or changed anything, the result was no audio input to BBP and the bars went on blinking in a steady interval! one sec red , one sec normal.
Cause i read something about an dpc latency checker , i had it running with it.. it floated around 100Us and a maximum of 300. No problem there.So…. next time i’ll try to find the exact source of the increased cpu load and take a look at the hmzzz ultra vnc program ?
which is the only thing running next to the standard programs.Ehm crap? Now what ?

September 15, 2009 at 7:28 pm #7879cyberneticorganismMemberI had a problem myself too… suddenly BBP and Edcast were not uploading the sound to the shoutcast server smoothly, it was giving drops in the stream, and that was causing glitches and drops on the listeners end.
Also on the air output of SAM it was giving those hickless and glitches (using livelink).
I just closed and restarted BBP (with the edcast plug-in which is in BBP) and it was running smooth again.
Very very strange, i hope this don’t happen again. I didn’t look if BBP was taking a lot of CPU power, but i suppose not. If it happens again i will check that too.
September 20, 2009 at 2:14 pm #7880AnonymousGuestLeif,
Last night our BBP had the skipping issue again. It’s like a scratched CD or perhaps a "hiccup" where small blocks of audio repeat themselves.
One of my partners went to the station (I was in a friend’s wedding at the time) and called me. I asked him to mute the PGM audio out of the console and notice if the bars would continue blinking red – and they did. Even with no audio at the input at all bars were randomly blinking red. The PC was restarted and the problem vanished. The PC was running for 7 days before the failure. This is the second time this happens.
Any ideas on what leads to such a problem ?

September 20, 2009 at 5:15 pm #7881LeifKeymasterI’m trying to reproduce the problem in a controlled environment, so that I can fix the bug. It really seems like a serious bug in my code.
Thank you for the reports, and I really appreciate your patience.Best,
///LeifSeptember 23, 2009 at 6:37 pm #7882cyberneticorganismMemberIt seems that my problem was caused by a router that was giving trouble. I had the same problem again, and now it wasn’t disappearing after restarting BBP. It took me 48! hours before i did find the troublemaker. For some reason the upload was very very slow. And since i have 3 routers connect down the line it was hard to find out the exact problem.
I first thought it was caused by the ISP, because they had a nation wide problem at the same day i had problems. I had to give the router a hard reset before the problem was solved, a soft one was not enough.
Anyway the problem is solved, i think the 2 times before were caused by the router too. So forget it Leif 😉
I learned another thing. If the upload isn’t running smooth in edcast when using livelink in BBP, also the speaker output from SAM is shitty. I don’t know why that is, but it is a fact.
September 23, 2009 at 8:23 pm #7883LeifKeymasterWow.. sounds like a major flaw in the dsp pipeline of edcast if the internet connection can affect speaker output.
Anyway, I saw the red flashing meters with my own eyes today at a transmitter site. Audio was fine though, only the indicator was broken, but this is a definite bug.
When I get back home (after my 3-month trip to europe and the states) I will set up several computers for long-term testing and get to the bottom of all this.

September 23, 2009 at 11:46 pm #7884AnonymousGuestUhn, and what should I do since my BBP is driving a MPX STL and no encoders whatsoever ? ❓
Any recommendations on a rollback to any previous version that does not have such a problem ?
Anyway.. I’ve put a sign asking for a weekly restart of the BBP PC until this issue is solved… Leif, notice that this PC has a fresh, stripped down W2K as the OS. I still have the XP hard drive as spare though.
Have a safe trip Leif.

September 24, 2009 at 6:17 am #7885LeifKeymasterRicardo, I believe 0.90.77 doesn’t have the problem. Can’t swear on it, but I’ve never heard of this problem for that one, it seems to be a more recent thing.
0.90.77 is still the only one that is downloadable from the main page — luckily!

October 8, 2009 at 3:31 am #7886AnonymousGuestWell, now things are getting worse.. restarts are needed every 2-3 days.. Pretty weird… We’re still using V 0.90.80 because of Challenger – it DOES make a difference and our station is the best sounding station in the whole dial !
Leif, could you post a list of services you would recommend on a stripped-down-to-the-bone W2K standalone PC ? I have already disabled a couple of them, but something is still screwing up our PC. The PC does not have a NIC installed, so network is not being accessed.
I also have Windows Embedded SP1 Demo and I am considering using it. Would you recommend it ?
Thanks
Ricardo
October 9, 2009 at 12:30 am #7887LeifKeymasterEvery 2-3 days? That’s crazy. Try the 0.90.87 version (latest) from the forum, I’ve never heard of anyone else having this sort of problem with it.
I’m back home now (Thailand) after my 3-month trip to Europe and the US, so I now have my computers around to do long-term testing.

October 9, 2009 at 9:40 pm #7888Joop KrauthausenMemberHeya Leif,
Just to be on the safe side.. is it advisable to switch to your latest forum release ?
Besides the red blinking bars there is no sound problem… so we don’t mind.greets.. and Thailand ? better weather ?
