In case you hadn't noticed, this is a BREAKAWAY forum.
March 4, 2019 at 2:53 pm #14962timmywaParticipantI've enabled Mono Bass a couple times just to try it out, this is on HD/Streaming only. But it feels like it reduces the bass. I don't know the technical terms for that but it just seems like there's less bass when Mono Bass is enabled. I know some StereoTool presets use that feature and the bass actually sounds better, or more pronounced. Anyone else get this when using it in BaOne?

I love the 'Mono Mix Bass' setting in theory, but in practice it just doesn't reduce headphone fatigue as much as this J Meier VST I've had for a while (http://bs2b.sourceforge.net/). The problem with using this VST is it's only a 16 bit audio path, so placing it after the Stereo Tool VST gives it harsh clipping. The VST is open source and contains an example of the algorithm used on the page I linked. Hopefully it has everything you need to test out something like this.
So a few days ago, after some more looking, I found a forum post with an attachment. It has a 32-bit VST port of a Foobar2000 plugin, which uses the algorithm I posted about. Best of all it doesn't clip when using it at the end of the chain. It's still not as flexible as the Foobar2000 BS2B plugin, having no interface [edit: apparently it does, it just doesn't show up in BA1's VST host]. I still recommend folks giving it a listen. Maybe an update to the VST host to display generic VST UI content?

No telling how long that attachment will be available, but it looks like it's been there for a couple years. I'm liking this one so far.
Again, this specific thing is more about lessening headphone fatigue by reducing the extreme separation starting from the bottom end and not so much about making sure the subwoofer has the right phase.
I'm coming here about it because I want Breakaway to have some more things that ST doesn't have. Up to Lord Leif to decide whether it's worth messing with, or if enough people would use this type of thing.
[edit2: I also just found this free plugin which seems to do the job. It's called AMBEO Orbit by Sennheiser https://en-us.sennheiser.com/ambeo-blueprints-binaural
Its interface actually works. Just make sure to disable reflections and raise the width all the way. I'll have to give it some more time to really compare the two. It doesn't seem as transparent as the MeierCrossfeed.dll]
Klorox why not reducing stereo tool output for something like-24db? That's easy and will fix your problems

Thanks. I was thinking about this, but wouldn't that affect the sound of BA1 in the quieter parts? I was under the impression I should give it as much audio data as possible to work with. Though I guess it's a non-issue now that I found a properly functioning alternative VST.April 3, 2019 at 1:54 am #14964JesseGMember
Stereo tool is a VST too so it's debatable here. He's hitting the max peak level inside the VST core from BreakawayOne. Reduce Stereo tool output so BreakawayOne VST core can have good Headroom to not clip anything. Declipper and Natural Dynamics add a lot of peaks (rly?) On audio so take care
That is not correct information, Junior.
Steinberg's VST v2.4 plugin specification supports a theoretical dynamic range of 1680dB. Half of that is ABOVE 0dBFS. 🙂 In the real world, around 1000dB of dynamic range is common on most plugins that support "full" dynamic range.
BreakawayOne actual audio processing however "only" has 48dB of headroom above 0dBFS. Way more than enough for Declipper and Natural Dynamics to be run without a reduction in signal level. Not a great idea, but it still will be fine. In case you're wondering +48dBFS is 250 times as much signal as +0dBFS. 😉 It's a LOT of headroom.
I'm going to lock this topic, since the mono bass feature that is in BreakawayOne cores' "Misc > I/O > Proc" page has been fully addressed long ago.
