I think I have a solution. I’ll make an ini-file key, something like "include_obsolete_presets=1", and if a user sets that key, they’ll get the full list of presets including older ones. The list will get very long, but that way I can bring any old preset back for those who want them.
That would be fantastic !

I had too much time and "developed" this more complicated "concept" (so just for the record ) that goes in the same direction:
Inspired by Leif’s doubts.
Loading presets from files is not available because it’s essentially equal to full control.
Full control is not available because leaving it out is the one thing that makes it possible to sell a specialized product so inexpensively, while leaving the door open for more advanced versions in the future….. perhaps I can think of a good way to choose the older presets without them cluttering up the meny. I’ll keep it in the back of my head, if I can think of a good way I might do it
What do you think about this concept:
A preset menu with 23 preset slots.
All presets (including old presets) are read only inside the breakawaylive.exe
and not as separate files !
By default all preset slots are loaded with latest presets.
But the users have the option to load other (official) presets stored in breakawaylive.exe (this way certified by you) to the slots.
A "Load Preset" button that opens a read only database of all (historic) presets.
To show the difference between new and old presets you could add an extra info to every preset name.
For example:
By default "Twente V.2" is loaded to one of the 23 menu slots.
But it is possible to load "Twente V.1" to this or every other preset slot.
The information about what presets are loaded to the slots will be written to the
breakawaylive.ini file.

This way you won’t lose control of which presets can be used and which not.
The user has the same limited access to preset options and no access to core settings of the presets.
Using this concept no user can add (load) presets that are designed and limited to other (advanced professional) Breakaway applications in the future or rip new presets to use them in illegal older versions of Breakaway.

Complicated because this slot concept needs extra time of programming to change the GUI structure. It would waste too much of Leif’s time.

Of course Leif’s simple INI file solution is much better (easier to do).
This option for old presets via breakawaylive.ini file editing is a tweak for advanced users only, that have no problem with a very long or cluttered preset list, because advanced users know the (old) presets they are looking for.

That’s really what it comes down to.. Your solution would be nice, but would take several days to implement, not to mention all the possible bugs and extra support. Ini-file is relatively simple.

Do you have any idea when this ini-file will be available?
Do you have any idea when this ini-file will be available?
It is not that simple.
It needs more than a new ini-file.
Leif has to build a new version of Breakaway Live that will understand this new old presets option of the ini-file and a breakawaylive.exe that has stored all these old (extra) presets and the expansion of the preset menu for the GUI.
So it will take some time.
And I am sure there other things on Leif’s priority (to-do list) before he has time to add this option.
So, I think it is not a question of days.
It is a question of weeks or months (though I hope it would be ready tomorrow).
As Martin Luther King said: "I have a dream,…..".
