Hi Guys!

Whew… I’m glad I’m not the only one with these issues 🙂

First, let me say that I LOVE Breakaway… best product of it’s kind out there (I own two ‘enhancer’ licenses and one ‘live’ license)…

I too have been driving myself nuts for months trying to get a consistent sound/tuning for my station.

Here’s my basic setup:

Pentium Dual Core
4 GB RAM
E-MU 1212M
Windows XP Pro

Automation Software: SAM4 (latest version)

AGC is completely shut off on everything (all decks, aux and master)… Effects are shut off on the 1212M as well…

95% of the audio files are sourced from master and the rest are wave files from label services like PlayMPE and DMDS.

All files are run through WaveGain before encoding to a lossless format.

Our format is Active Rock/Metal, and what I’m looking for is a clean, consistent sound.

To extent of my craziness, I’ve been trying all versions of ‘live’ from .69 up to the latest version… for some reason they all sound different… lol.

I’ve been bouncing between 44 & 48K on the Breakaway Pipeline and love the clarity @ 48K, but have been getting distortion on the low end and ‘sizzle’ on the high end…

Presets I’ve been switching between:

Rock & Plutonium (Settings are close on both)

Peak Level: 1.8 – 1.4
Final Drive: 0.0
Range: 42
Power: 26-29
Speed: 50
Bass: Normal
Shape: -3 to -2

Now, I am hopeful that ‘Passive Aggressor’ may help since it is a more ‘open’ preset, but in the mean time, does anyone have any ideas or preset settings that can help?

Thanks in advance!

I’m bypassing now, until found a solution.
I swear it’s the last night to spend sleepless until ? find a solution.
It is true that all the versions sound different.

The radio automation does not seem to be the problem because we all use different systems.

I’m trying now Rustonium, but it seems not solve the problem, just makes it sound less.

About virtual cables, I can’t buy them this period to do tests, but I think that pipelines and VAC is the same software.

I may be totally wrong but at some point I suspected that changing the parameters in other presets and then come back to Plutonium, the sound has been changed. But it could just be "ear games".

Version to version? I can’t really tell that big of a difference between any of the versions…except for the obvious new additions and plugins and enhancements. I’ve never paid attention.

If you’re using an EMU, be careful that the mixer isn’t "looping" something…that mixer software is confusing.

Perhaps BBP does change a how a DJ might mix their live sound on the radio. BBP has an uncannily "real" and "up close" sound to it.

We use pro audio cards and a broadcast automation system for our playout. Our setup sounds great through expensive broadcast processors, Breakaway Live, AND BBP ASIO.

Hopefully someone here can help you solve your problem. all the best.
Obsolete (previously deleted) presets can now be accessed. Edit the INI file, and in the [Master] section add ObsoletePresets=1
Try this one:
OB Moon&Spoon (I call it "Active Defender" 😆 )
Final Drive: + 2.0 dB
Range: 20 (or 10)
Power: 73
Speed: 30
Bass Cut: -20
Shape: + 50
Roll-off: 15 ( or 20)

The usage of Roll-off is very important, because without you have an high frequency overkill !

For me this tweaked OB Moon&Spoon is the best alternative while we are waiting for the next release with Passive Aggressor.
We have counted the days.
We have counted the weeks.
Now we are counting the months.
I hope that we won’t have to count the years ?

I don’t have the time to check out Raduga. Sorry.

Have you tried blind ABXing the different versions to see if it’s placebo?

So the distortion that’s getting added is perceived as more clarity? 😉 Maybe it’s compensating for non-linearity in your playback system and/or room.
Now, I am hopeful that ‘Passive Aggressor’ may help since it is a more ‘open’ preset, but in the mean time, does anyone have any ideas or preset settings that can help?
Try Rustonium (with the gain up if you want, it’s made to be as "quite" as Reference on purpose and for "BDJ") in the mean time if you like a processed sound, or Zenith if you don’t like a processed sound. Also check out Reference Hard. 🙂

In some ways "PA" sounds more open than even Zenith, and in some ways has more of a longer term gain riding like Jill FM except without the pumping. So it may or probably won’t be a sound you will like.

Finally… maybe even just try Jill FM, with the bass up a little if you want. It’s a very solid sound that is almost as loud as New York, without any of the extreme multiband slam sound, instead a bit of "pump".
