Thanks, guys!
Dude…
You just made me cream my pants.
AFAIK you’re not my type, but I’m flattered just the same 😀.
Here’s a new version:
http://www.ceaudio.com/beta/breakaway_d … _alpha.exe
Changes since 0.90.03:
When using KS output, output channel mapping is now:
Channel 1/2: Core A
Channel 3/4: Core B
Channel 5/6: Core B (was previously silence)
Channel 7/8: Core A (was previously silence)I did this because of problems with getting good 4-channel output from my Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop.

What (minimum) processor power you need for this baby?
Intel Core 2?
January 7, 2010 at 4:24 pm #9501LeifKeymasterHehe, nope! It runs beautifully on my Atom N280 netbook, together with Traktor or Virtual DJ!

January 8, 2010 at 2:40 am #9502AnonymousGuestI just gave it a quick spin. <3 it.
Any chances of a version with 4 stereo channels? (Or an option to run two instances or w/e)January 8, 2010 at 5:38 am #9503LeifKeymaster4 stereo channels?? Maybe a pro version in the future.. What do you need that for anyway? 🙂

Because Traktor with 4 decks and an external mixer is the way to go?
(yeah, yeah, I know, autosync is lame, sue me)January 8, 2010 at 11:39 am #9505LeifKeymasterGotcha. Yeah, maybe later. What’s it worth to you? 🙂

January 8, 2010 at 8:21 pm #9506AnonymousGuestMy eternal gratitude, whatever you think the retail price should be, and a nice asado whenever you come here to visit. Deal?
January 9, 2010 at 5:38 pm #9507powerjamMemberYOU, Leif, are a GOD! You even made me cream my pants. Lol – sorry, but somehow you made my Echo Indigo DJx card work in Asio mode WITH OtsAV and videos running with non-noticeable latency. WOW! You are fast – and yes, you have been busy. I wish I had this for my New Years eve gig!
If I use the asio driver for my echo card directly in OtsAV there is serious skipping and slowing down of the music while typing in the search box. For some reason if I use the Asio setting in breakaway DJ – the same settings I was using in OtsAV for ASIO it works! I don’t understand that. It fixed my Asio glitching with OtsAV, is low-latency for video AND has multi-band processing. Even in Plutonium it seems to be rock solid so far with my DV9000 laptop, even as I’m using wireless internet, playing a video in OtsAV and typing this as I listen with no glitches. (Asio buffer is set at 256, with 128 I got just a few glitches very rarely).
Once again, did I mention VIDEO VIDEO VIDEO with no noticeable latency! Yes, Video works – no glitching! Unbelievable.
PERFECT! Thank you so much – where do I send the payment?
January 10, 2010 at 12:30 am #9508LeifKeymasterThank you kindly! Comments like this make it all worth it 🙂.
I guess I’d better get it into our online store then. Might this be the first time in history that an Alpha version has no reported bugs? 🙂

January 10, 2010 at 1:47 am #9509powerjamMemberLeif,
Worked for me 1st try and when I tried Breakaway Live I couldn’t get my Echo Indigo DJx card to work in Asio with it, I’m just amazed. I’m sure there are some things that can be improved, but it is usable as-is for me. Big Thumbs UP! WAY UP!! 😀
NOW, for questions and possible improvements:
1. Should my Echo Asio be able to work at 96Khz sample rate? Only options in Breakaway DJ are 44.1 and 48
2. What if I wanted to run breakaway with 2 sound cards, one is ASIO and one is not? Could breakaway do that or not?
3. Can the RTA work with Breakaway DJ in ASIO?
Thanks again, Leif.

January 10, 2010 at 2:44 am #9510Dr.JMemberI’ve been testing it and it seems to work great for me too. I think it’s ready for release, that way I can use it in a real setting without the audio advertising.
January 10, 2010 at 3:49 am #9511LeifKeymasterHi Joe!
Thank you for your comments!
1) High sample rates for playback are necessary in certain scenarios. For example when using Breakaway Broadcast to output MPX, 192 kHz is required, as the necessary stereo subcarrier has information up to 60 kHz. However, for regular audio played for human beings, 44.1 kHz sampling rate covers the entire human hearing range. This is a subject one could spend a lifetime arguing, but one thing is for sure — with source material coming from CDs, there’s no possible benefit from increasing the sampling rate. Disadvantages would include increased CPU usage, more complicated code base (more bugs), and paradoxical choices, such as:
What’s the multiband compressor supposed to do with the ultrasonic material which may exist in certain sources and not others? The options I can think of are:
A) Include it in the top frequency band, thus allowing ultrasonic content to affect audible content
B) Put them in their own frequency band, thus allowing an strong unnatural boost of ultrasonic content, since there’s usually so little of it
C) Put them in their own frequency band but couple this band to the top audible band
or
D) Filter it out as it enters the algorithmOut of those options, C) and D) are the only ones that would be acceptable to be, but with the dubious benefit, well..
2) This would be possible in theory, but there is a big problem with it: The delay wouldn’t be constant!
As it is, whether you’re using 4-channel KS or 4-channel ASIO output, if you’re using the 4-channel ASIO input driver, delay will be identical for both decks. If we split them up, one of them would have to go through the asynchronous sample rate converter, and then that one would be delayed more. In any other environment, this wouldn’t matter much, but believe it would cause serious problems for a DJ trying to beatmatch — especially for someone who is using internal mixing in the DJ software, and thus using the two outputs in Breakaway DJ as Master/Cue as opposed to Deck A/Deck B! Imagine the trainwreck..3) Yes, absolutely, because, Breakaway RTA doesn’t need to be connected to Breakaway DJ in any way — Breakaway RTA just needs a measurement microphone. It doesn’t even have to be on the same machine as Breakaway DJ.
Best regards,
///LeifJanuary 10, 2010 at 4:15 am #9512powerjamMemberThanks for your quick reply, Leif.
1 & 2 answers make a lot of sense and #2 is unnecessary, I just was asking as someone who may want to use a different sound card for cueing or pre-listening to an upcoming track, my Echo DJx has two asio outputs so I can do that with the card anyways using ASIO 1/2 and 3/4 channels.
#3 I just wanted to see the frequency analysis in real-time as it was playing back through Breakaway DJ using Asio but everything is dark in RTA and I don’t see an option to route ASIO only Wave In, DirectSound and KernelStreaming…
Thanks again,
-JoeJanuary 10, 2010 at 4:49 am #9513LeifKeymasterAh! Now I see what you mean.
There’s no easy way to casually route audio between different programs. I’ve been thinking about developing some kind of solution for this, but can’t seem to find the time between every other project.. Maybe Jack for Windows is an option?
Otherwise, perhaps your sound card has built in routing features? Many do. If you could make your sound card route the output to the appropriate input, you should be able to open it as a Wave or KS device in Breakaway RTA and get the audio in that way.
