December 17, 2009 at 7:33 pm #9058Energy RadioMemberHey Leif,
Upgraded to this new version and now the clicks and cutting out are becoming more prominent, yet still erratic and intermittent: http://www.snapdrive.net/files/160655/f … 7_1919.mp3
Running in Low CPU mode. Asus Xonar D2 on W7. DS mode. Symantec AV and Edcast only things running.
Any thoughts? I’d like to get back to max quality as having some issues with sibilance on some material, need those clippers 🙂
Thanks again
Steve
December 18, 2009 at 1:35 am #9059LeifKeymasterPlease try KS mode 🙂. DS isn’t all that great.

December 18, 2009 at 1:29 pm #9060Energy RadioMemberI’ve never been able to get stable audio using KS. Been having to use DS and now Wave.
December 20, 2009 at 5:11 am #9061LeifKeymasterI completely rewrote the KS system a couple of months back, so if it didn’t work for you earlier, please try again now.
If KS doesn’t work now, that’s indicative of a serious sound card driver problem. I’ve actually never seen it not work properly except on certain older AC97 onboard devices.

January 6, 2010 at 9:41 pm #9062camcloneMemberDear Leif!!!!!
BaaaaaAAaaaaad news.. 🙁
It’s the first time i have problems with small clicks on my Breakaway Broadcast ( BBP ) version.
using .93 version!
i went back to .87.( the clicks become audible from the first minutes of use ) ( .93 )
until .87 i never had any problems with ANY buffer configuration and with ANY other settings used and with ANY graphics and audio card drivers versions at the same hardware configuration.!!!
maiby it’s the latest pipeline version problem 4.9.8.2388 .
i am sure that the cause of the problem is that g@@d d@@@m f@@@cking version 4.9.8.2388i went back to 4.9.5.2253 with .87 version and i am now ok.
the problems are audible from the first minutes of use , i repeat.. 🙂 ..…not after X XX days.
p.s. check my FM broadcast here : http://1045fm.live24.gr/1045fm/ ( it s windows media audio with 75 msec preemfasis for emergency STL handover proposes.) i know that this audio codec has overshoots..don’t shoot !!! 🙂
it’s more clear and loud than everrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!i found a way to make good settings … i stopped configuring my sound using headphones !!! that’s the secret!! do neeeeeeeeeever use headphones for FM broadcast (loudness/clearness) sound setup!!
only external speakers!! thanksss!January 7, 2010 at 4:44 am #9063celarMemberTo really get an idea of what your sound is, I personally think it’s best to listen on everything.
I listen to our station on headphones, I listen using cheap earbuds, I listen on a high-end car system and a crappy car system. I even listen on a little clock radio.
It seems that each of these systems has the capability of revealing different problems. It’s amazing how a cheap clock radio can show you some pumping artifacts that you couldn’t hear on high-end speakers.
And I listen at different volume levels, too. There’s a whole different experience to be had depending on the sound level, and that too can reveal different types of audio problems at different levels.

How odd! Could you post a screenshot of your I/O settings window?

I couldn’t agree more. If the signal stands up to scrutiny with reference cans, it will probably sound OK on everything. On the other hand, just because it sounds OK in a pair of speakers across the room, doesn’t mean it would still be acceptable in headphones.

Very true. Over-processed signals tend to sound awful at background-level listening. So true about clock-radios too! For example, I think I may need to fix Eruption, because it seems to have some severe midbass spectral intermodulation problems which I didn’t notice in the big speakers I initially used to design it, but notice very clearly in the Tivoli Model One. That’s way beyond a clock radio, but still. Maybe I should make sure to listen in the clock radio too 😉.

January 7, 2010 at 2:55 pm #9065AnonymousGuestAbsolutely guys! Listen on everything!
I have two different pairs of Sennheiser headphones, a set of speakers I made years ago with 15" woofers, a clock radio, an Accurian HD radio, a GM van, and finally my VW car radio. Between those, the oldest pair of Sennheiser headphones is the easiest to spot problems…
Some speakers or EQ settings will mask "hole punching" if the EQ is peaked in the range of audio that is causing the hole punching.

Leif, in that case I should ask: do you think the same spectral IM issue may exist in Plutonium as well, since Eruption was described as an offshoot of Plutonium?I remember reading that the only major modification from Plutonium to Eruption was the AGC, and the multiband was only slightly modified. Just wondering whether you happened to do a comparison on that Tivoli radio (Eruption vs. Plutonium) to see whether my beloved Plutonium might also need fixing. Thanks!
January 7, 2010 at 7:15 pm #9067LeifKeymasterI did, and Plutonium sounded fine to me. It’s possible that Eruption simply has too much multiband drive, from the extreme input AGC settings.

January 7, 2010 at 9:39 pm #9069camcloneMemberThat’s the truth,
to make the ultimate loudness/clearness sound you have to check the sound on many types of speakers!Leif,
the clicks on the .93 version with the new pipelines happen whatever settings o make on IO settings..I never had such a problem before with earlier versions.
My system is broadcasting with realtek onboard soundcard and i tried many versions of sound drivers.
with .87 version everything is excellent, but not with .93.the clicks are very audible on the internet stream which goes through "breakaway pipeline 2" internaly.
i now run with .87 and i m ok
January 8, 2010 at 6:32 pm #9070sgeirkMemberI prefer to setup processing using my AKG240’s then make final tweaks from the car.
January 11, 2010 at 10:19 pm #9071JesseGMemberyeah AKG K240DF are quite good cans. Also great…
AKG K81 DJ cans ($50 cans that blow away $1000 cans like Denon AH-7000 for instance)
Beyerdynamic DT-880 Pro
and of course… Sennheiser HD-600/650all of those last 4 are very similar sound. I prefer and use the DT-880 Pros because they sound like Senn HD-650s with the bass of Senn HD-800s without the sticker price of either.
