I hear it. That’s really annoying indeed! My apologies.

Could you try installing Live 0.90.69 again, on top of the current version?

That way, you’ll be using older known-good Breakaway Live with the newer version of Breakaway Pipeline. If we still hear the problem, we’ll know it’s the pipeline, and I can then report the issue to the VAC author.

Could you show me a screenshot of your I/O Settings window?

    Best,

    Leif,

Thanks for your quick reply! I will certainly do as you request, and reinstall the 90.69 version over this one tonight.
I tried to attach a screenshot of my I/O settings a while back, but I couldn’t seem to figure out how. I had a .bmp file. Is there a specific file type needed, and is it simply a file attachment?

I rarely recommend cluttering your computer with applications, but here’s one I can’t live without:

    http://shup.com/

For taking and uploading screenshots as quickly and painlessly as possible.

    http://stashbox.org/

For creating an account to use with Shup.

    Here’s how easy it is:

All it took was to press CTRL-ALT-K (shortcut for taking screenshot), Enter to upload, Enter to answer yes, and finally CTRL-V to paste the URL to the uploaded file into this message.

This may not be what you were asking, as I forgot to grab a cap before re-installing 90.69 😕
Here is the current I/O page:

That’s fine, Riplee — it hasn’t really changed.

Nothing particularly complicated there — Pipeline 1 in, Pipeline 2 out, both at 44100. You might want to change the output buffer size to 441 to get an even number of milliseconds per block, but I don’t know whether it will really make any difference.

Let’s see how it goes with Live 0.90.69. If that doesn’t solve the problem, that points to the Pipeline having a problem, and then this workaround might do it!

OK…so far so good….I’ll certainly keep an ear on it and report in here as soon as there is anything to report !!
I will change the one setting you mention just to keep things equal…I do know that when I install the new vrsion it switches the output sampling rate to 48K. Is that correct? That certainly needed to be changed, as the distortions were immediately evident. Then after about 5 days, they came back.
If it does turn out to be a pipeline problem, how would I get the latest version of BL with the previous version of the pipeline, as I think the new version updates the pipeline without asking..(I think?)

    Hi Riplee!

Don’t change the setting yet. If you do, you will have changed two things, and thus even if the problem is solved, we won’t know whether the problem was the newer pipeline or the newer version of Breakaway!

If you keep running BA Live 0.90.69 with the new pipeline without changing the setting, we’ll get somewhere.

Sorry I have been silent for a while since my first post here.

Listened to Riplee’s stream for a while tonight – enjoyed the music but did not hear the effect described by us on this post so I assume that BBL has been restarted.

I have been settting up a number of test systems and monitoring this effect – approx 5 days before it starts seems to fit with Riplee’s experience however mine are running in VM environment – actually 3 different VM environments now – all with same issues and to be clear here – SAM4 with its internal software processor and SPL with its plugin processor ALL work flawlessly during the last 90 days – these systems have run without intervention and NO audio clicks at ANY time.

I have now 3 different dedicated hardware environments working now as from today so I will know within a week if these are also experiencing the same issues and will report back to this post.

At the moment I am trying to locate an old version of Leif/Keith’s original software product to see if it will still accept the old key – StreamPro if I remember correctly. I will also run this the same environment as the ones that have gone "faulty" with me to see if that product runs fine.

Clearly I really want to see this work. The audio problem can be heard on http://83.170.80.31:8504 8506 and 8508 – 8504 is probably the worst now as it has been in fault condition for longest (8502 is different audio format but is also giving same effect.

One point – I do not hear the effect on the automated jingle/promo from the trial version – perhaps just not noticd it but 8506 and 8508 are using trial version and so far I have not notied clicks when that plays out. It is not too often the promo plays so I do not want to further confuse Leif here.

As I have a few systesms in the fault condition I am happy to provide Leif with access if it can help in any way – these are all test systems.

Really nice sound from Riplee as I finish this epc!

    stevenaj,

Thanks for your kind words….glad you like it. Actually, it’s Leif who deserves the credit for the sound!
I actually want to change the playlist, but I told Leif I wouldn’t touch anything as a test, so even though my KVM is messed up right now, and I can only fix it by powering off the system, I have refrained from doing so until I complete this test….which leads me to this conclusion so far:

The problem has not come back since I did as Leif asked. I installed 90.69 over 90.81, which I beleive left the new pipeline in, and back rev’d the BL program. I hate to say this, but the problem might be with BL and not the pipeline. It’s been 6 days almost and so far no sign of the crackling.
I will not touch anything for a few more days, and then I guess the next step is to install the newest version of BL again and see what happens.

Listening to http://83.170.80.31:8504 right now…and I hear the issue, although yours seems to be more of a "skipping" problem, whereas mine manifested itself as a distortion…or crackling sound..similar but not identical.
Good tunes stevenaj…playing Sade right now…hmmm…I think I should add some Sade too!! 😉

Again….I plan to change the playlist soon…which will include a lot more tunes…much more variety.

Leif…. is there anything you’d like me to do before I try the newer version of BL again? I am pretty sure the problem would have occured by now previously…as much as I hate to say it. 🙁

    Hi Riplee!

Thank you very much for your patience. I wouldn’t try the new Breakaway yet — it’s not worth risking screwing up the sound again. I’ll let you know when I think I’ve fixed it.

It’s good news that it’s not the pipeline. That means I have a chance of fixing it! 🙂

OK….I’ll leave it as is for now.
I know these kinds of things can be like finding a needle in a haystack, so I will remain patient.

I am going to reboot the box so I can get my screen back and change the playlist…(I have KVM issues currently), but I’ll leave the version as is until I hear further.

    Thanks again!

    Leif,

Do you want me to install a different version in the same was as Riplee? The effect appears different between our systems but it is similar in the nature that it manifests itself a number of days of running.

Let me know if I can do anything that would help you.

Riplee – I am going to restart BBL on http://83.170.80.31:8508 so if you want to listen to a stream without clicks then that one will be clean for a few days. I change the format overnight here in the UK so it will me a little more mellow from 23:00 through 06:00. I’m not sure where you are located but I’ll use that one for a few more experiments and leave the others alone at the moment until I hear back from Leif.

    Best wishes,

    Andy

    stevenaj,

I’ve added your stream as a preset in my Roku Soundbridge, and it sounds great! Love the tunes!
I seems we have somewhat similar tastes…which is cool. 🙂

I did reboot my machine last night to fix my KVM issue, and I’ve changed the playlist, so if ya get a chance, give it a shot!
