Hi, Leif.
We are the professional radio station and we are looking for a software which could make an audio processing for our internet streams. Breakaway is a very good candidate but we need it as a Winamp plug-in (our player is Winamp DSP plug-ins capable and it produces direct stream, not an audio output).
I have two questions:
1. When the Winamp version will be released? We are ready to participate as a beta tester.
2. We are using a single computer to produce 5 streams. I know your licensing is computer based and maybe we wouldn’t need more than 1 license. In fact we are planning to use 5 instances of your software and are willing to pay for it. Can you describe your licensing model for this particular case?
Thank you for your answer and a good job.Juraj Nevesely
FUN RadioApril 13, 2008 at 4:08 pm #4044LeifKeymasterHi Juraj!
Thank you for the comments! 🙂
I don’t have a release date for the Winamp DSP version yet, but some time in the not too distant future. Ahead on the priority list is better Vista-compatibility for the standalone version, most likely in the form of DirectSound support.
The Webcaster version will be significantly more expensive than the consumer version, but it will have more controls (at least one more – Final Drive, for loudness adjustment), and a different feature set, geared towards webcasters instead of listeners, and licensing will be computer based – so you will indeed be able to run as many instances as your computer can handle on a single computer, with just a single license.

April 13, 2008 at 8:13 pm #4045AnonymousGuestThank you for the answer Leif but I’m still hungry for the information.
We are under the time pressure and we have to decide in a couple of weeks. I have to say Breakaway is my number one on the list but I have to consider price and availability. If I have no information about price and availability I cannot argue for Breakaway and need to decide for something else (there is still a couple of products that we can use even if they don’t work as WinAmp DSP plugins).
Please, give me more information (at least a time frame) and I will fight for Breakaway 😉
Thank you.Juraj
April 14, 2008 at 3:22 am #4046LeifKeymasterJuraj, I wish I had a better answer for you.
The reality is that I’m only one guy, and I’m still recuperating from the 5-months long (14 hours a day, basically every day) development of Breakaway for Windows. So basically, I have to rest my head some more, to keep it from exploding.
The Webcaster version might be 2 months down the line, it might be 4, I really can’t say. The hard part isn’t making the algorithm run in Winamp (that’s easy, in fact it already does) – the hard part is making it into a product that can actually be sold. It can literally take months of hard work, depending on how much needs to be done.
Anyway.. If you can hold out for Breakaway, it will be worth your while. If you can’t, no worries. Maybe Breakaway will be still the best alternative the next time you’re ready to upgrade. 🙂

April 14, 2008 at 12:33 pm #4047AnonymousGuestThank you for the answer, Leif.
My last question: Webcast version will be the Winamp DSP plug-in? Or it will be something special designed to listen to the stream and produce modified stream? I just want to know what should I expect…
Thank you.Juraj
April 14, 2008 at 3:04 pm #4048LeifKeymasterThe webcaster version will be a Winamp DSP plug-in, as well as a standalone application much like the current Breakaway, except it will have pipelines for both input and output, and allow multiple instances. All for the price of one, we won’t differentiate between running as DSP and running standalone for licensing purposes. K.I.S.S. as they say.
If I can, I may even include LeifCast, which is an icecast/shoutcast compatible DSP plug-in supporting MP3, WMA, aacPlus and Ogg Vorbis. One unique feature about LeifCast is that it doesn’t crash — even when doing WMA streams.
If you’ve ever wonder why http://di.fm and http://sky.fm sound so reasonable even at 96kbps MP3, now you know the answer. 🙂

April 14, 2008 at 7:44 pm #4049AnonymousGuestSince we are using IceCast, LeifCast is the solution for us 😉
I will appreciate any news concerning streaming. Money for your product are laying on the desk in front of me and we are very impatient 🙂April 15, 2008 at 3:18 am #4050LeifKeymasterOh man, I’ve said too much.. So much for resting and taking it easy, I guess I’ve got work to do 🙂

April 15, 2008 at 3:49 pm #4051AnonymousGuestAnd I’m sure I’m not the only one 🙂
But seriously, I think your product is ideal for Internet streaming. Nobody would buy Omnia or IDT to process 128 kB stream but everybody is expecting a good sound. I’m sure you would sell ten tons of it…April 16, 2008 at 3:16 pm #4052AnonymousGuestLeif – can I get a copy of your Leifcast programme?
I am working on a new web radio out of Luxembourg – now is my "make your mind up" time 😀
If your new baby comes even close to IDT – I will be one happy bunny – I used to use one of those, and would be delighted if your software can produce something even remotely similar – if so – you will sell loads!
Best wishes,
Mike
April 16, 2008 at 4:16 pm #4053LeifKeymasterHi Knightrider!
Leifcast isn’t ready for release yet. I’ll definitely let you know when it is, though!
If you can’t wait, feel free to use something else — you can always switch later when Leifcast is available, if the benefits are worth it.

Any time-line on when LeifCast is likely to become available?

April 17, 2008 at 1:37 am #4055LeifKeymasterHelp! I’m one person, drowning in work! 🙂
Seriously, I can’t plan that far ahead, there’s too many variables stacking up.
Maybe I should keep a public to-do list on this site 🙂

April 17, 2008 at 7:56 am #4056AnonymousGuestTO-DO:
1. Finish LeifCast.April 17, 2008 at 11:10 am #4057LeifKeymasterHehehe 🙂
The complicating factor with to-do lists is that they have to be prioritised.
Vista incompatibilities is likely affecting a lot more people than LeifCast would, and likely hindering sales. So, that one has to go on top.
That makes the priority list something like this:
1) DirectSound support for improved Vista Compatibility (stop-gap solution)
2) Winamp Output plug-in (because it won’t take that long, and will provide among other things file processing)
3) Breakaway for Webcasters: Winamp DSP plug-in / Standalone Executable / LeifCast
4) Proper Vista version (sAPO)I also have a couple of other things I have to squeeze in somewhere, including but not limited to Eating, Sleeping, Living Life, Learning more Thai, etc.. Someone find me a planet with 48 hour days, please!
