i want to run breakaway on 1 pc and the streaming software (sam) on another pc. how do i get the audio from sam on the sam pc to go through breakaway on the breakaway pc? can this even be done?
July 30, 2011 at 7:06 am #12438LeifKeymasterSorry for stating the obvious, but yes it can — that’s what sound cards and audio cables are for.

July 30, 2011 at 1:54 pm #12439dancemusicradioParticipantso i’d probably do it like this. cable from sam pc sound card into breakaway pc sound card and another cable from breakaway pc back into sam pc sound card. as sam has its encoders built in i’d want to make sure the processed audio goes through them. i must admit i did think of something as obvious as the sound card and cables option but i thought their might be another better way to do it.
July 30, 2011 at 8:38 pm #12440JesseGMemberI’ll add that while it can be done, you’re WAY better off just doing it all on the same computer. If the second computer is equally as capable as the first, then what I recommend is setting up a spare so that if your current computer goes down, you’re only off the air for a short time.
When using two computers to do the job that one could do, it all comes down to… you would only be adding more links in the chain that can break. I learned this in spades when we setup radioio which insisted that we use 1 computer for playback, 1 for my own processing, and 1 for encoding. Even though we were using digital audio, it was rife with problems. We eventually had it all on one single machine, and not only removed all of the issues we had, but we were able to triple the number of channels we had. 🙂
July 30, 2011 at 9:54 pm #12441dancemusicradioParticipanti’m currently running it on 1 machine however the audio skips and jumps all over the place. my machine has 250 gig of hard-drive and is running an external hard-drive as well. i was thinking it might be my machine because i have not had this problem before. i don’t know what i was thinking about but i thought that maybe i should run them on 2 separate machines but i bet you its something to do with the pipe-lines. breakaway pipe-line 1 as my input and 2 as my output. this is done via the use sound-card agc on sam broadcaster i prefer to do it this way as it just processes the audio in sam and sends it through the encoders but doesn’t process everything else. any ideas as to what i could or what could be causing the audio to jump all over the place?
July 30, 2011 at 11:06 pm #12442LeifKeymasterThere are some known problems with the current pipeline version -.watch out for the next version which may fix the problems you’re seeing.

As I’m a purist, I’d try to use optical I/O both ends as this will be much better quality then analog cables but again, I fear this might be slightly stating the obvious..

no not at all, how does optical I/O work? i’ve heard of an optical cable, however i take it that its nothing to do with that?
August 2, 2011 at 7:07 am #12446yorkie98ParticipantOptical I/O (Input/Output) is simply using an optical cable to link the soundcards on the 2 PCs instead of just using an analog jack lead, So it is exactly what you are thinking of. This is of course all irrelevant as you seem to have got it all working on the one machine again.

thanks, its handy information. leif suggested it might be the pipe-lines so i should probably wait until the new release before deciding whether to use seperate pcs. so would be still interested in any info or tips on doing this. thanks
August 2, 2011 at 9:39 pm #12448yorkie98ParticipantYou are not alone with the pipelines issue, I have it too, most seem to and it was discussed at length here with no conclusion or solution found. I have temp solutions running on all my installs (scheduled restarts every few days at 3AM along with occasional unscheduled manual restarts when it pops up after shorter periods) and I have learned to live with it albeit an inconvenience. When the station owners ask me if there is a way to stop this occurring, I say yes, get out the cheque book and write me a cheque for £10,000. This seems to keep them quiet for a while..
I’m very hopeful that the new version sorts this problem once and for all an I can finally stand by my endorsements of Breakaway 100%.August 2, 2011 at 10:07 pm #12449AudioMember[quote author=”yorkie98″]

Cheers

August 2, 2011 at 10:29 pm #12450dancemusicradioParticipantmy breakaway keeps skipping and jumping all over the place so it must be the pipe lines. so i am going to try live link dsp.
August 2, 2011 at 11:11 pm #12451dancemusicradioParticipantstill jumping, looks like i might have to do a re-install of both softwares
